Hello Everyone!!

I am getting married in Disney on July 9th (in 30 days!!!!) :goodvibes , and I thought I had flying with my dress under control, as all the bridal magazines I read just said to call when you book your plane tickets to get confirmation that you can hang your dress.

I called Delta Song to book my tickets, and although they were very nice, they said they cannot in any way guarantee a place to put my dress, because most newer planes have had the large closets removed to make room for more seats! They said it would depend on the flight crew if I could hang my dress or not, and that the only way to absolutely guarantee not checking it was to buy a seat for it!!!! :sad2:

So I'm wondering.... what has everyone else's experience been flying with wedding dresses? Has anyone successfully flown Delta Song with one? Even better, has anyone done this from Boston's Logan airport? Should I be choosing a different airline? I don't want to check or ship my dress, what should I do????

Any suggestions or success stories would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Jill :flower: :bride:

you'll love song. we didn't fly with them for our disney wedding but we flew with them on our last trip and loved it. the roomy seats and foot space, the tv channels available and movies as well, though you buy the movies, games that are offered to play for free, food, even though you buy you have an option. you still get your free drink and peanuts. overall wonderful experience.
we flew with jetblue for our wedding and they didn't have any closets at all!! so, i packed my dress in a carry on, yes a carry on, and had it with me at all times. my dress was getting pressed by carolyn allen's anyway so i didn't care how many wrinkles the dress was going to get while being packed in a carry on.

I think as long as you don't act like a "Bridezilla" Most airport personell will be happy to help you in your situation.

My mother (who flew ona different flight then us) was responsible for getting my dress to WDW and back. She didn't have any problem as they allowed her to lay they dress flat in the overhead compartment. If you Just tell them before you are about to board that you have this dress, most will let you board earlier and find a space for it. (Other passangers may not be to happy with you taking up most of the overhead compartment for your dress), but I'm sure they'll get over it. Don't stress! Do you think they would tell a bride at the airport that she can't take her dress with her????

And if for some unknown reason they would ever ask you to ship it or put it on another flight, tell them that you won't do that because you need the dress THAT NIGHT when you arrive. I don't know why they would ever say that, but just in case!

I have heard of people booking a seat for their dress. The peace of mind was worth the cost of the ticket for them. PLUS they could check an additional two bags....the dress had luggage, I guess.

I suppose they seat-belted it in, just like another passenger (?)

Best Wishes -
Maddle

I booked my dress a one way ticket for the way to the wedding. On the way home, I just explained to the flight attendants that I was flying home from my wedding/honeymoon and had my dress with me. They allowed my DH and I to preboard and we put my dress into an overhead compartment. The flight attendants made sure no one else used that overhead compartment. I'm sure if you nicely explain to the flight crew that you have your wedding dress, they will do their best to accomodate you. And they will ask you a TON of questions about your wedding :) Good luck!

I was a bit worried with my dress since I didn't have any back up method if the dress got ruined or wrinkled when we flew. We carried the dress and tux on and fortunately enough we were upgraded to 1st class, and there was an open bin so we just lied the bags in it and closed the lid. However, on the flight home, we were not upgraded but that wasn't a big deal, but the stewardess would not let us lie the bags in the overhead bin until ALL suitcases were properly stowed, grrr. So, we sat with those bags in our lap for 20 mins and then when everyone was seated, my DH went to lie the bags in the bin and the stewardess yelled at him that she would do it when everyone was done...crazyness

Hi! We are leaving in less than 2 weeks and i did book a seat for my dress. it comes in very handy because we needed the extra bags to check and absolutely right, peace of mind!! when we called the airlines they couldn't guarantee anything so we booked $69 one way on jet blue from boston. not bad at all! we are carrying on all 4 bridesmaids dresses as well. good luck, time goes by real fast!!!! :Pinkbounc

Sorry this is completey off thread but I just spotted Mickey in your wedding photo Tinkabela! Did you have him instead of a bouquet?

I suddenly really want to have Mickey in my day somewhere even though I've been steering away from Mickey and towards Cinderella for eveything wedding related, invites etc...

Wierd really as I've never been a fan of Cinderella, but she's a princess and I want a princess wedding... my favourie princess is Belle but I can just hear the corny jokes about my poor DH2B being the beast! lol

Rosie, there are so many places that you can inject some Mickey into your wedding day!!! We are getting the Mickey unity candle, Mickey chocolate favors, Mickey garter (for me, of course!), Mickey guest book and pen, and I am getting hidden Mickeys in my bouquet (you can see all of those things at Franck's). :goodvibes Plus we're having Mickey and Minnie visit our reception :) We're also combining a princess theme with a Mickey theme, because we just HAVE to have Mickey at our wedding day!

Jill we flew out of boston on a regular Delta flight. The attendants were wonderful and let us board early and put my dress in a regular closet. When we flew home it was on Song and they do not have a closet but they do have a storage area just to the left of the entrance to the plane where they keep their personal belongings along with the blankets and pillows. The flight attendants again were great and put my dress in there. Good luck. I find that the earlier in the day you fly the better the flight crews are.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of your suggestions!!!
I really appreciate it. It makes me much less anxious knowing other people have done this!

And also because of your suggestions, I'm flying Jet Blue! For some reason I thought they didn't fly out of Boston, so after it was mentioned I checked, and they have better prices and better times!

So thanks again, and I'll let you know how everything turns out!

I just had to say hi!!! We're date-twins! But I'm getting married in Indiana, and going to WDW (staying at AKL) for our Honeymoon!

Are you all Disneymooning too? If so, where at?

Hello!! Sorry I didn't get to post before I left but I still wanted to say hi! We did a honeymoon in Disney, too, we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and had an awesome time!

Did you get back yet? How was the AKL?

As a postscript, I ended up shipping my dress out from the UPS Store to my hubby's aunt, as she lives in Florida and was driving to the wedding. I shipped it in the garment bag, and the store boxed it up, only folding it in half once. It arrived in Florida looking intact! (I'll put up pictures soon.)

If I had acted faster, and booked a seat for my dress when I originally booked my plane tickets, it would have actually been cheaper than shipping it. Since I waited, though, the plane ticket price rose and it made more sense to ship. Plus there was definitely something to be said for knowing my dress was in Florida before I was! It sure was a pain to drag it through security on the way back, too!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and thanks again to everyone who gave advice, it was all very helpful!!!

Jill
