I called Disney and asked for this credit for our 9/21/02 cruise and was told that I must go thru my travel agent...I called the booking agent from Vacations2go (online discount site) and was told that it is impossible for them to add an onboard credit, that this must be done by disney...any suggestions on where to go from here??? thanks, gary

Tell the person you booked with, that the code is "REF".

You must use this code or else they refuse to understand
what you are talking about!

Good Luck.

APPLAUSE TO DISNEY!!!! I mentioned the REF code to the Vacations2go booking agent and she coldly insisted that her agency does not have the ability to place an on-board credit with Disney and refused any further help....I called Disney once again and re-explained my problem...the Disney agent that I spoke with was courteous and helpful - until I was placed on hold - and then abruptly told that any further inquiries should be addressed to my booking agent....I asked if the Disney agent could offer any other suggestions and she coldly repeated, "any further inquiries...." I then feared that by shopping online for a discount vacation, I may have saved several hundred $$, but now would be treated as a second class citizen by Disney.....a short time later I received a phone call from DCL with the news that the $50 has been added to my ship credit....thanks to Disney's cruise agent Heather and to all here at DIS who have offered their helpful tips.....thank-you....gary

Wow, that's nice that they called you back, without even having promised to. I'm impressed.
My TA just called Disney to confirm the credit, and handled it for me. I guess you get what you pay for with "discount service". Disney went out of their way to do the job that the TA should have.

I have a word of caution about the first time cruiser's credit and the 'REF' code.

I was at my TA's office this week and preparing to make the final payment for my daughter's cabin, which would be her family's first cruise. I asked her to call DCL and ask to get the 'REF' code added to the reservation for my daughter's cabin. She did, she talked to a DCL agent named 'Joseph'. He put her on hold, came back, and said that the code had been added and they would get the first time cruiser benefit of an onboard credit. I was happy.

After discussing a couple more details with my TA, I gave her my credit card and she called DCL to post the final payment. It was almost $500 higher than the invoice we were looking at. She questioned the second DCL agent about it and she said that when the REF code was added, the fare was reset to the brochure rate for the cabin. We had it reversed, since it's much better to not get a $50 onboard credit and save almost $500.

So when you ask for the REF code, be sure to ask if the fare will remain the same and determine if you'll be saving anything.
