Hey! :)

I posted this a while ago but for some reason it didn't go on :confused3 Ah well, i'll try again...

Well, for Christmas i'm looking for 3 Disney books and I wondered if anyone can help me out here...

The first one I am looking for is on Walt Disney's life. Does he have an autobiography? Or does anyone know a really good book on his life? If so, could I have the name and where to find it please? :teeth:

I'm also looking for a Disney Trivia book. Anyone know a really great one with loads of cool info and really interesting facts?

The last one I am looking for is a book on the structure of Disneyworld and how it started off and became what it is today. I think it would be so interesting and I swear I saw a book like this once but I don't remember at all what it was called! I have just seen this one though …. http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=BOOK&title=256798&p=91&g=148&pa=sr what do you think?

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

Donna,
Do you want all three books for an adult or a child?
I have never seen a Walt autobiography but there are many wonderful Walt Disney biographies (and some not so wonderful).
Again, if you'll specify age of the reader, I'm sure we can come up with good suggestions for books in all three categories. Susan
ps I'm a librarian as well as a Disney fan.

I've got a copy of that "Ultimate Visual Guide" which is nice but it's about the films and the different characters rather than the parks. The best one I've got about WDW was brought out in 1996 to celebrate the 25 year anniversary and is brilliant but I bought it at WDW and don't know if it's available now. It's just called: "Twenty Five Years" and published by Disney's Kingdom Editions. ISBN: 0014410025. I've also got another excellent one called: "Since the World Began" by Jeff Kurtti published by Hyperion and was another 25th anniversary edition but probably still available. ISBN: 0786862483 for hardback and 0786882190 for paperback. The only biography of Walt that I've got is called: " Walt Disney, an American Original" by Bob Thomas which is very good (but bought in WDW therefore not exactly unbiased!!) ISBN: 0786860278.There's a brilliant book called "The Walt Disney World Trivia Book" by Louis A. Mongello which is fascinating. ISBN:1887140492 published by Intrepid Traveler (www.intrepidtraveler.com).

oooooo thanks dilberry, especially for the ISBN number for the book because it could be hard to find! I'm gonna see if I can order it on Tuesday - The trivia book that is. :teeth:

P.S/ I should be getting that visual guide book for Christmas too

You're welcome. Why do people keep putting an extra "l" in my name?????

Hi Donna

Why not head down Charing Cross Road? I find myself magnetically drawn to foyles etc at least once a week whilst I am working up here.:guilty:

Also, if in doubt, Ebay will often come up trumps ;)

Hi Donna,
I have a few suggestions for good Disney titles. I checked to make sure they're all still in print and available through Amazon.

A wonderful, simply written biography that any age could enjoy is Discovering Walt The Magical Life of Walt Disney by Jean-Pierre Isbouts. ISBN 078685354-9 It encompasses his whole life and though mentions problems that he had with his employees and emotional health, it focuses mostly on the public Walt and why we remember him. The book includes helpful websites including the one to the virtual museum developed and maintained by the Walt Disney Family Foundation.

A suggestion for the making of the WDW and other Disney magic--a very good book is Imagineering Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real by The Imagineers ISBN 0786862467 The title tells you what its about.

A really fun book crammed full of facts, trivia, and replicas of lots of Disney things is The Disney Treasures by Robert Tieman ISBN 0-7868-5390-5 This has reproductions of items from the Disney Archives tucked into pockets throughout the book and includes an audio CD from the archives' audio collection.

As to a book that would include all of your favorite WDW rides and attractions, I suggest either picking up a souvenir book at one of the gift shops next trip (printed in both paperback and hard) or if you want it with your Christmas things, call the WDW guest services number and ask for the mail order department. They'll pluck one off a gift shop shelf and ship it to you.
Good luck. Susan
