If you saw my earlier post I am looking at being able to go to school due to being a displaced worker.....

The lady told me I needed to have my FAFSA filled out immediately so I am attempting that now...looked over a worksheet last night- and I have a question that I can not get an answer too!! The local CC is too busy to help :( I don't want to make a mistake!

It asks "Have you ever received federal student aid?" Well I have went thru the steps- with a counsler- twice- once straight out of HS- but only went to classes like 2 days and another time a few years later through a "travel academy" but dropped there when I found a job- I don't think I was there long enough for anything to source either. Both of these were over 15 years ago but I know that once we had a credit report pulled for our house or car or something and someone said something about something showing up- but it showed as paid so that was good??!?! I just ignored it because my thought was.... maybe it was when I dropped early and they just remitted it back??

I don't know what to do! It says " Answer "NO" if you have never received federal student grants, loans, or work study. You should also answer NO if you have nver attended college."

Can anyone help.... I don't think it all matters anyways-because my DH makes over $50,000 a year and I thought someone said we wouldnt qualify for anything anyways-but the JTP people have to see you applied to put you in their program.

Thanks in advance for any help!!:worship:

Missy (feeling stupid already....and I haven't even started yet!!)

Did the schools you went to ever receive money in your name from the federal government aid like loans, grants or any of that?

Than the answer would be yes. If they never received aid in your name because you left the schools before you needed to pay than your answer would be no.

Thats the problem-I have no idea? How would I know? Would I have had to come in and signed something?? Once I stopped going to classes- and neither time did I go for any time at all-seriously I think 2 classes the first time and maybe 2 weeks at the other? But it was so long ago I don't remember.

I would just say NO because I really don't think anything went thru- seems I would owe it back somewhere or something. And as a matter of fact- the first time my mom had to pay something on her credit card and I remember me knowing I was not going to go- but her not and when I told her and of course she was mad- I was happy that I quit going as soon as I did because her money would be returned or something like that! The thing that gets me is why someone would say anything about something showing up paid on my credit report- I have pulled reports and never seen anything like that-but someone did mention it once.

What happens if I say no and then they think I did???

And seriously...I am not pulling any ones leg....I haven't gotten something and trying to pretend I didn't -no scams here I just don't want to answer wrong and them think I was trying to lie!

Was what you got before a grant or a loan? If it was a grant, then you would need to know if the school got paid in your name. If it was a loan, you would have known by now if it was paid because they would be asking you for the money. Also, I don't think a grant would show up on your credit report so it looks more like you had received a federal loan.

So....

if it was a loan, the answer is no.

if it was a grant, you need more info, but it's probably going to be a no.

I work in financial aid and the answer to that question doesn't really matter. The Dept of Ed will do a match on your name/SSN to see if you are in default on any loans and any outstanding loans (good and bad) would be listed on the results that are sent to the college. I would just say yes, since you have been to school before.

When you took the 2 classes, how did you pay for them?

Good for you going back to school!:thumbsup2

When I said 2 classes...I meant I went two times.... OH MY GOODNESS!!

I was 18 years old-have no idea who was paying for what...didn't even want to go- my time was spent daydreaming about my wonderful boyfriend- who was shortly thereafter my wonderful husband....and then within a couple years after that my disgusting- deadbeat ex-husband!!! (Note to any of you younger Disers.... I should have worried about school!!- Cuz the song is deceiving..... Love is NOT all you need!!:scared1: ) Alot has changed since then...can't remember even registering for those classes- only that my mom wanted me too!!

Oh, ok. Than I guess your answer would be a no. And besides, if you have any doubt just ask the FinAid office at the school your applying to. They should be helpful, especially if it's a community college.
