Crud...I bought dd17 a puffer vest from Aeropostale for Chirstmas...she has only worn it 2 or 3 times.

I washed it for the first time according to the instructions and the dye from the lining bled all over the outside (and of course its a white vest:mad:).

Being as she has worn it and it fit and all, I had gotten rid of the receipt. DH took it to Aero tonight and while they will take it back, they will only give me $12.99 for it, which is okay, I guess, I understand the return policies.
I only paid maybe $20 (it was originally $69, but was on sale and I had a coupon).

However, I'd like to try to salvage it if I can, because now its on clearance and hard to find in the stores and dd really would like to keep it if we can get it fixed.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can remove the dye? Its a dark/birghtish blue/green dye from the inner plaid lining. Would one of those color catchers work, or do you have to use those to prevent the dye from bleeding in the first place?? I made sure to pull dd11's out of the laundry pile before it to got ruined..I will be handwashing that one!

HELP....!!!!

The last time I had that problem with red flowers bleeding onto the white background of a sweater, I soaked it by itself in enough water for an extra large load, plus detergent and oxyclean. I ran the load this way several times, then removed it immediately after the spin. Most of the problem was corrected, and the reds are still red. I know I took a chance of the red fading in the flowers, but didn't really have an option. There was no chance of a return for me, either.

Buy Rit Dye Remover. My supermarket has it in the laundry products aisle.

Follow the directions on the box, and good luck!

Sorry to hear about the vest.

I use a shout color Catcher in any loads that I think may run. It does an awesome job of catching the dye. I have yet to have an item ruined when using the color catcher. It goes in as a little white sheet and comes out different colors depending on what colors ran. It makes washing clothes easier bc I don't sort by colors any more.

It is sold in the laundry aisle by the stain sprays in a small box.

It is my best laundry product I have found!

Good luck w/ the vest.

Rit color remover. Pure magic. Seriously.

Thanks everyone....I'm off to get the Rit...crossing my fingers it works....the vest is already ruined so it won't hurt!

Crossing my fingers!
