HELP - DS12 doesn't know what he wants for Christmas?

DS11 wants and iPad and nothing else. My first thought was no way, considering it's way more than I normally spend on a gift. But he has more than half the money saved, so I was considering getting him a gift card to the Apple store for part of it. The problem is, I just can't get past how boring it is to get gift card on Christmas morning. He wouldn't be able to do anything with it until the next day.

The next day, or even later. Last year I got the new iPhone in white and didn't want white. Went to the Apple store and 2 AT&T stores and there was not an iPhone to be found.

I say buy him the iPad, let him open it Christmas morning with a note attach saying "we paid for the other half for you" and have him give you what he has saved."
