Help! DS won't drink milk from sippy cup...

After we took the bottle, our DS refused to drink milk. Actually, he's not had a drop of milk since then and that was nearly 2 years ago. Our doctor recommended that we give him a Viactive supplement but he won't take those either.

he eats a TON of cheese and enjoys other dairy products, so we don't worry very much. He is growing as he should and is as sharp as a tack!

Your little one will be just fine.

I think commercials and stuff make milk so overrated. Milk is not necessary for survival. You are not a bad mom and your child is not suffering without milk!! Just make sure he gets calcium from other sources-yogurt, cheese, calcium fortified OJ. Have you tried just a regular cup at mealtimes with no lid? That is about the age I just let them have regular cups with meals and they seemed to do fine with it. Try not to worry about it.

There's calcium in a ton of stuff that's not dairy too - like broccoli and black beans. No other species drinks it's mother's milk past weaning, much less drinks another species milk into adulthood!
It's your job to provide healthy foods for your LO - it's his job to eat/drink them!

Like the other posters have said, do NOT go back to the bottle! It's not about the milk for your little guy. It's about comfort. The bottle combined with milk is comfort....like a security blanket. It's kind of like your son is having withdrawls. I've been here with my boys, and though it's not easy, the withdrawls will not last much longer.

Just stand firm. Also, if you haven't already done so, don't let him go to bed with milk anymore. This was the hardest thing for my boys to get over. They could deal with no bottle during the day but they cried for it at night. It was about 2-3 nights and then it was over. I couldn't believe how easy it was and wished I had done it so much sooner (oldest was nearly 3 and youngest was 1.5 when the "bottle fairy" came).

Oh, and try to make it fun. I told my boys that the bottle fairy was coming to take away their bottles and the bottle fairy would bring them some new cups to use because they were big boys. I pumped this into them for a couple days and they were actually looking forward to it! Then one magical night I went through with it. They are now 5 and 3 and the oldest can still remember the bottle fairy. :rotfl: I know you already took away the bottle so you would have to do some sort of variation, but you get the idea.

I just went through this with my DD. She was fine switching to a cup with juice but not milk. Try buying a few cups that are only used for milk. I bought solid color cups for the milk and she has princess cups for her juice. I think what she didnt like is that the cups tend to hold the smell of the juice(especially white grape) even after scrubbing them with vinager. Our house is bottle free finally!

Neither of my girls drank milk... my peds said not to worry, just give them yogurt, cheese, pudding, calcium fortified OJ, ect.....They are both healthy.
