I planted our sugar kettle with flowers Sunday! Today while we were at work our chocolate lab dug almost all of the flowers up!:headache: My dis friends what can I do to stop her from digging my flowers? I sprinkled black pepper after trying to replant the flowers but HELP!

You could try laying down chicken wire over the area you planted. The plants will come up between the wires with no problem, and the dog will not like getting his nails caught on the wire. We do that along our fence to keep our diggers, I mean dogs, from digging under the fence.

Another suggestion I've heard but never used, is to place some of their "poop" around where you have planted. The dog will avoid digging there.

Is she a puppy?

NO she is 3. She loves to dig and has her own spot in the yard that we don't mess with because she hides her toys and bones in that area. If we put dirt in the holes, she will dig them out by the next day. Crazy dog!

Not kidding: Get some of your urine in a cup (or whoever the dog thinks is "in charge" (alpha) at your house), and pour it around the edges of the flower garden. She will smell it and it will be "marked" as "your territory" in her dog brain.

You have to think like a dog here. There is no way you're going to get her to think like a human. :goodvibes

Sprinkle black pepper where she is digging. Don't let her see you. Dogs sniff before they did and they won't like it. It has worked for me every time. You may find you need to repeat it once or twice after three months or so, but if you are consistent, it should eliminate the behavior.

Yea, crazy cajun dog thought I was seasoning her flowers, she dug it back up last night. :confused3 I tried cayanne pepper today so hopefully when I get home today she will have left it alone.

Thanks everybody!

This worked for us...we put it in the holes they dug and they didn't dig anymore.

Are you a woman? Then get your husband to tell the dog to stop. ;)

(See the dog-chewing-things thread.)

Cayenne pepper...not black pepper. Sticks to the plants/earth better.
