what happens if the dang thing breaks?

DD's instrument (string) had a piece of the neck fall off. It looks like it just needs to be glued on. Should I take it to the rental place? Should I try to fix it? How much is this going to cost me? :headache:

Can you describe where on the neck it was and what it was?? Check your rental agreement- there may be an insurance on there and the shop may fix it for free!! :thumbsup2

Around here most of the rental fees include insurance, so you just call the rental co, and they will fix or replace it free.

Hope it is the same there!!:goodvibes

DD had a string break on her violin and we called the store (I wasn't about to try to change it!) and they gave her a whole new instrument that was even nicer than the original rental. She loves it and is being very careful now. We have insurance that covers any breakage, loss or theft.

Our agreement covers things like that. Now if a string breaks because that is common usage they will charge you for the string but will put it on free. My son's bridge broke and they just exchanged the violin at no charge.

You might also check with the orchestra teacher. They may be able to fix it or know if it's included in the rental fee. After all, they see a lot of rental instruments!

Ours was included in the rental fee. If it broke, it was fixed for free. One time my son tripped and the violin cracked in half!:confused3 Thank goodness an adult witnessed the incident and could back up what my son told me, but I didn't have to pay because the insurance was included in the rental fee.

Our rental agreement (viola) included moving to the next size up whenever dd grew out of her instrument, repairs (that weren't caused by poor care of the instrument), but not strings (those need replaced every so often, and it's an expected expense).

Don't try to fix it yourself unless it was willful damage. Call the rental place and see, you don't have to tell them who you are!

I agree. The insurance for the instrument is most likely included in the rental cost. Definitely call.

Thanks guys. I'll call. I guess I was a little freaked out.
