HELP! DM is stressing over her expectations!

Heres a guys and father of two little princesses view on your situation.I also come for the same background you speak of and live in NY.Back in 1999 I was in the same dilemma. My wife and I wanted a DFTW and her parents wanted a traditional Italian style wedding in NY.They also were footing the bill. There were heated debates about the subject and I even went as far as arguing to pay for what we wanted.I kept hearing its my only daughter and we want it a certain way.Talk about hard headed.Well we finally gave in and even 10 years later we still think about what could have been and it kills us.Now being the father of two princesses (have your father read this)when they get big enough and are ready to marry whatever will make them happy they will get.I watched them come into this world and held them even before my wife and I swore to myself I would care for them till the day I die. That promise I made even means doing something I might not like but if it makes them happy so be it.Sometimes as time goes by we forget about that miracle of life and really everything else doesn't matter. As for the ego part from one father to another get over it because in reality no matter how wonderful or how much money is spent on the wedding the ones who will talk will and believe me we all have them in our families.DisWishes720 don't let anyone tell you what to do whether they are footing the bill or not.Its your day and it should be what you want it to be.As for how much you would spend in Disney vs. NY I feel that if we had a DFTW we would have spent as much or more with all the options in Disney the skies the limit(we spent $60,000 in NY on what who knows).BTW because we never got what we wanted I am in the process of surprising my wife for our 10th anniversary (April 09') with an Escape Vow Renewal and who comes can and who doesn't can stay home!I say go for it have your DFTW and enjoy the rest of your lives together.Believe me if I could do it over again I WOULD HAVE A DFTW...Just a guys and father of two little princesses view...:rotfl:

Goofyz3girls...I do not know what to say, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for this post  . Everything you just said has only confirmed what I had already been feeling. I am going to send this post to my dad today. I broke down at work today because he just does not understand the importance of this event for me, my DF, and the family. He can't wrap his head around the idea of spending so much money for one day. You are truely a great father and husband, and more men should take a lesson from you! I know that I will totally regret not having a DFTW because I have literally been dreaming about it my entire life. I just really wish my dad would understand that I want this day to be about him and I too...I just imagined he would be really proud of me, and want to make "giving me away" a really memorable, and special experience for our friends and family. :sad1:

awe Jenna!!

Since your mom has come around a bit, maybe she can talk to him...no???
I could have never convinced my dad on my own - and he's a BIG stickler!

Beleive me, it helps to have someone else help with the convincing. If he sees the cost benefit with Disney vs. NJ he may very well change his mind.

Give it some time.

Have you called DFTW to let them know you will be there in Dec? your dad may change his mind when seeing that the Italy courtyard/Isola can be used.

I want to see you get your DFTW!!!

First off.....girls thanks for the kind words.I never thought my response was going to get that kind of reaction from everyone. When I finally let my wife read this thread (after her surprise VR)she won't believe it came from me.:lmao: DisWishes720 just to add something else for your father to think about. It would be the biggest thrill for me if and when one (or both) of my little princesses tell me they want to get married in WDW.Its the only place in the world where they can really feel like a Princess and a father feel like a King.Imagine pulling up to the Wedding Pavilion or Cinderellas Castle in Cinderellas Coach with your daughter, and walking her down the aisle to marry her Prince Charming. If that doesn't scream I'm the king and this is my castle I don't know what will. All the money and NOWHERE else in the world can give you that and believe me every father on the day of their daughters wedding wants to feel like they are the King and their daughter is their Princess. We might not want to admit it but its the truth. As fathers we only want the best for our kids and if this makes them feel like they are the best who are we to deny them. From one father to another give your daughter her wish it will be the best gift you can give her.She will return the favor and give you the best gift she can.......GRANDCHILDREN.....princess: :wizard:

Seriously. Your wife is a very lucky woman to have such a wonderful man and father in you. And your little girls are very blessed. I love reading your responses, but I keep getting teary eyed! :sad1:
