As a previous frequent travel with no issues with planes and rides, but after one snorkeling trip a few years I have progressively gotten worse. I have been prescribed mecelzine but it completely knocks me out. I've also tried the exercises to help try realign the crystal in my ear, but I'm not sure I'm not doing them correctly or they are just not working for me. I do the one where I look at a fixed object and slowly lay down to the left and right sides.

We will be flying in, and I don't want to sidelined for 3-4 days of the trip because of the vertigo symptoms. If I start my meds, I will need to start a few days before and be reduced to 75% while I'm one the meds (the entire trip and approx 2 days before and after).

Anyone with Dis'er with vertigo? What do you do to help?

I was diagnosed with vertigo 3 1/2 years ago. It was so bad that if I stood or turned my head I would vomit. The doctor gave me some exercises to do but doing them made me throw up immediately. I still have bouts of vertigo, I notice it more in the spring for some reason. It has never been as bad as the first time though. I was concerned about flying and rides but it never seems to make it worse. I also have the same medication and it knocks me out as well. I only take it when the vertigo is really bad and I can sleep for 24 hours. I took a cruise last March when the vertigo seems to hit me more and was afraid the movement of the ship would bother me. I was surprised it did not seem to bother me at all. Hopefully you will do fine.

I'm the complete opposite. Planes make me sick after a few hours, but cruises I am fine on until I get off the boat then I'm violently ill and running into walls for weeks afterward.

Interesting how it can be so different for each person. We leave in 9 days for another 4 day disney cruise. I am wondering if the the water is going to be a bit more choppy and if I will be bothered. Right now I am not having any issues with vertigo. Most of the time if I'm laying down and turn my head to the left things will kind of spin for a few seconds by it went a way a couple months ago and I am hoping it won't come back.

I have no idea if this will be helpful or not. I was diagnosed with positional vertigo several years ago. After not knowing what the heck was going on for several weeks, I was finally referred to an ENT. The ENT did a procedure on me that induced the vertigo and then turned my head to get the crystals back in the canal. This was done several times and then I had to wear a neck brace for two days to restrict my head movement. I even had to sleep sitting up. Have you tried anything like that in addition to the exercises?

I actually haven't since my vertigo is mainly brought on by travel, but I don't travel for work anymore and only fly 2-3 times a year so I usually just deal with it. It is like motion sickness x100 after the motion stops. I went on a week long cruise and was vomiting and falling out of showers for the next 3 weeks. Maybe it is time to look into that treatment.

What the doctor did is called the Epley maneuver. Again I don't know if this is at all helpful with your case, but I remember how awful vertigo feels and thought I'd mention it on the off chance it could help. Good luck!

My DH has it. Found out in 2005 after a horrible trip to the ER. Flying is ok and so are cruises but he has to watch the rides. We have a large yard that he uses a riding lawn mower on and he must be careful how fast he takes the turns on the thing or he gets dizzy. So we do not do Space Mountian, Thunder Railroad or Mt. Everest etc. He can't ride Dumbo or anything like that.
The ER doctor told him to take Benadryl everyday to help keep things loose. It does help. He also used the head excersizes on him and told him to sleep in a recliner rather than laying down when he feels it starting. Those things seem to help too.

I hope your trip is event free.

i was actually okay on space mt the first time 2 years ago, but the 2nd ride got the symptoms started . (who can pass up no wait space mt?). The worse was asto orbiter! I wanted to die! My 4 yo wants me to ride with her and it is hard to say no, but I was wise enough to decline the tea cups ride the next day. I guess I will start with the exercises again and hope that helps. I saw a post from a RN to break up nausea meds and maybe i'll try that with the vertigo meds to reduce the fatigue.
