Hi everybody, I just got back from our first family vacation, and on Wednesday my husband was playing with the camera and hit the format button and it erased the 150 pics I had taken, there was no warning or anything and we had no idea this would happen.

I didn't know I could get the pictures back so I figured I better take some more pics so I didnt go home empty handed, Is there anything I can do to get those ones back?

I had taken around 150 and lost them and then took around 160 after that so I had some.

I hope someone knows the answer. :sad2:

Do a web search for "data recovery" - there are demos of various tools out there that can scan your drives for any data. Usually the demos will show you what can be recovered, just not actually recover it.

When I checked a few years ago, I ended up settling on "Restorer 2000" because it worked as well as most of the competition and was easily the cheapest.

However, if you took 150 pics then took 160 pictures, chances are that all the originals are overwritten (at least, big chunks of them) so you're probably going to be out of luck. If you had left it untouched and swapped to another memory card (if you had one, of course), it would probably be completely recoverable.

If you took the pics on the same card, I am afraid they are gone. If you used a different card you might be able to recover them..... Hopefully it was on a different card.

I have to agree with the others, since you took another 160 pictures they most likely would have been written over the ones that were erased. Unfortunately this doesn't do you any good now that your trip is over but this is one example of why it's always good to have at least one spare memory card as backup (I usually have 3 or 4 with me on vacation).

On a lighter note, maybe hubbie will feel so guilty that he'll want to bring you back to WDW next year to get those pics back. :goodvibes

formatting the card will not completely erase the data so a recovery program would likely be able to get the files back.

however, they will only work if you have not overwritten the areas on the card where the original files were located. formatting only prepares the card for use, it does not completely wipe the card clean. if you google something like free image recovery or something like that, you will find some of these programs for no charge that might be able to help you.
