We are going on our first DCL on Feb 29th on The Dream 4 Night to Bahamas. I am totally naive when it comes to understanding the different Cats. And yes, I've read the posts that are tagged at the top of this forum but I'm still confused.

I am in 8C. This is a Family Deluxe Oceanview stateroom.

On the day of embarkation, I'm planning to ask what upgrade options are available. However, I would like to be able to intelligently know the difference on the different Cats in order to determine if the upgrade is worth it.

Thanks in advance!

There are basically 4 different types of rooms: Interior; Oceanview; Verandah; and Concierge.

Within each type of room, there are "better" locations/configurations (categories): Interior - 11 & 10; Oceanview - 9 & 8; Verandah - 7, 6, 5, & 4.

Within each category, there are better locations: A (mid-ship); B (more forward & aft); C (forward & aft); D (lower deck).

Ah! Thanks so much! The A, B, C, and D confused me.

PrincessSchmoo,

Sorry to high jack the thread, but we are also first timers. We are traveling on Magic, Deck 8, Cat 04B (we have three rooms). I thought we were getting a verandah room in the middle, but from your description it sounds like we are ocean view room somewhere off enter. Did I do something wrong in the booking? This all so confusing.

Thank you!

Category 4 is a verandah room. The 4Bs on deck 8 are mostly forward and aft. You can look here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/wp-.../DCL-Deck-Plans-Magic-Wonder-October-2015.png to see the deck plans for the Magic.

Thank you for the map. I've never been on a cruise ship before; is this a good area?

We were in a 4A on the Wonder, deck 8, a couple months ago and it was a fantastic location. We spend a lot of time on the pool deck so it was great to be only one deck below the unlimited soft serve ice cream. Enjoy your cruise!

HAHA! I wish I could have a stateroom Kitty Cat! I love vacations but every night at bedtime, I (and Dh and kids too) will say "I need my kitty."

You and my DD both! She can't sleep unless her cat is in her bed.

Apologies to the OP for the diversion. :cutie:

I would love a stateroom cat. I'll miss my cats when I'm on vacation, and if one is provided for me I could get some purrs without having to stress my cat with all the travel to get on the ship.

8C, family size ocean view, is a great category. Large room with large sit in porthole. If you upgrade to a veranda and don't want to lose any square footage inside, make sure its a Family verandah, cat 4. Cat 5 verandas are not family size, so you lose room space.

Thanks for the tip on cat 4. I will be sure to ask for cat 4A or cat 4B if it's available for upgrade during embarkation day.
