Disney experts, I need your advice here. I am confused...

We are taking our niece (7) and nephew (9) over easter April 9-12. I was able to book a discounted travel agent rate at the All-Star Movies so we booked a room only package for 3 nights and saved alot right there (for the accommodation part).

Now I need to get our passes (4-D MYW hopper) and would rather book the DDP with it. For myself, I have a complimentary Travel agent 2-day pass (April 11-12) and also a b-day promotion (April 10). All other guests, do not have anything. Since the passes + DDP has to be exactly the same for everyone in the party, I am unable to book the DDP for the entire stay.

I've made a few ADR's tonight and althought the agent on the phone told me that I should get from them (Disney vacation), for everyone in the party, a 2-day MYW hopper + DDP and once we get there, upgrade on a personal basis, hubby + 2 children to a 4-day MYW hopper and add the maximum allowable +1 day of DDP for them (we are staying 3 nigths at ASM). I can then use my complimentary b-day promotion to get a disney gift card (value of my complimentary 1-day ticket so I can pay for food with its value) and use my complimentary 2-day MYW hopper for the remaining of the stay. What do you think?

Do I need to upgrade upon arrival or after the first day of use?

Your help would be greatly appreciated to find out the right strategy...Thanks in advance!

well you lost me on some of that! But do remember that if you want to add DDP you have to do it at least 72 hours before arrival...you cannot add the DDP once you get there. So I think you have to change the booking now to include at least one day pass per person on the reservation & add the DDP at that time. I do know they don't typically allow you to add dining plans when you check in. There may be an exception if you're on the Disney Vacation Club, but doesn't sound like that's what you're doing.

You must book DDP in advance, and as part of a room/ticket/dining package.

Since you have a room-only reservation, it would have to be rebooked as a a package, which may lose some of the discounts you're currently getting.

As for the MYW tickets in general, you can upgrade any regular (not promotional) ticket, even if all of the entitlements are used, up to 14 days after first use, so if you do rebook as a package, you could get 1-day base tickets for everyone, and then apply the upgrades as necessary after arrival.
