Trying to decide between booking an Inside vs. Outside stateroom for 2 adults on the Magic. Other than the obvious (no view vs. porthole), can anyone help provide what they like about each of these staterooms? What you don't like?

Well, I'm in the group of needing a real window for the light. So I'd only do an Oceanview.

What's the cost difference? I vote OceanView for liveview of outside.

Drawbacks?
  • possible privacy issues when in port. Your room might be the same level as the dock. Just keep your drapes closed.
  • it's weird when you see this appendage come down to your window as they power wash it. I always wonder if there is a camera on there.
  • does the Magic have that animated porthole for inside cabins? You might be missing out.

If it's like the Wonder... pay attention to the oceanview rooms. Are they twin portholes or one large mega hole. The large Deck 2 hole makes up for the verandah for me. Then again, some early sleepers may be disturbed by the Deck 3 activities.

Price difference please. ? ? ?

It can vary a lot for each sailing.

I like lite, as mentioned, so .....

Some like darkness, so, ...

TIA

Price difference between the two is $280, looking at booking the GT rates so we don't get to choose the category. Inside staterooms do not have the magic porthole, and from the website it looks like no split bath.

Also, is there room to store your luggage under the bed like the Dream and Fantasy have?

It's all a matter of personal preference and whether you or your partner have any issues with clausterphobia.

For me, while I don't need a balcony, I do need to be able to see outside, and in an inside cabin, it would feel like the walls are closing in on me. If that sort of thing does not bother you, then I'm sure you have better places to spend an extra $280.

Inside cabins in my experience are pitch black at night. You absolutely need a light to get to the bathroom or anything like that. And I have a really hard time waking up without natural sunlight.

Sayhello

I was recently on the Magic. Although I wasn't in an inside stateroom, there was room under the bed for luggage. I would think it would be the same for the inside staterooms.

On the Magic, an inside can be either 184 sq. ft without split bath or 214 sq. ft. with split bath. An outside will be 214 sq. ft with split bath.

I've stayed in the smaller inside, and it's fine for DH and I because his stuff doesn't take up as much room as mine, as no split bath is fine as he doesn't need as much bathroom time as me and we're fine with sharing space. With my Mom and I together, I prefer the larger cabin with split bath as we each just have more stuff and the split bath is really handy with 2 women.

Regarding he IGT/OGT, there are some inside and ocean-view locations that I just wouldn't be happy with, so I personally wouldn't book those rates and risk being unhappy with the location. I'll only book inside and ocean-view when I can choose the cabin. For the *GT on the classic ships, I'm only comfortable with VGT as I'd be fine with all those locations.

Personally, I really don't see the benefits of having the outside stateroom. I've tried all of the various types: balcony, porthole, Magic porthole, and inside... and I honestly didn't enjoy one particularly more than another. I doubt I'd go for a balcony again, as I just felt guilty for not using it much (but that's me).

I'd say the split bathroom is a better argument for going with the outside stateroom. If you're not concerned about the size of the bathroom, the window is really just an extra cost.

Check out things you could spend that extra cash on... such as an excursion or spa treatment. It could help you decide. ;)

we stayed in an inside room on the magic in feb. yes, the bed is high enough that you could put your luggage underneath it. We are a family of 4 and it had enough room for 2 big suitcases and a small carry-on

For me it depends on location rather than window. I much prefer a inside on a higher deck near the pool and buffet rather the an outside in a lower deck.

Our first cruise ( not disney ) was a deck 2 outside cabin after a day at sea the window was covered in salt so not very pleasant to look out of. Privacy was also an issue in port.
It was also along way up to the pool if you forgot something or to the buffet for a coffee!

We've booked an inside near the rear on deck 7 on Magic for next summer, nice and close to the pool and buffet. Also not far to the outside deck for a better view of coming into port than a window in my view.

Hope this helps! Gillian.

RE: Privacy while in Port ....

Has anyone actually been able to see inside a stateroom from outside? In 15 cruises I have not - and I look EVERY TIME I leave and return to the ship.

Yes, "it's creepy" leaving your curtain open while in port because you can see out so well. But I really don't think that people can see in. Nighttime when it's dark out could be another matter with your cabin lights on.

Funny I was thinking the same thing. I've never been able to see in the portholes from the outside dock. I think people assume that if they can see out than people must be able to see in.
