I have a 14 year old Doxie and she began limping a couple of months ago. She is 14 and has high calcium levels and an enlarged heart. When I took her to the Vet he said it is degenerative nerve damage. Today, she is not using either hind leg at all. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow. Has anyone ever experienced this and if so what can I do. I dont think she will be able to use her back legs anymore. I am so sad because she looks bright and is eating and drinking. She keeps looking at me with such sad eyes. like what is going on. Any help would be appreciated. :paw:

I wouldn't wait a day. I have a doxie who had back surgery in July. They told me the quicker I got him there, the better, & better chance to get him walking again. I went from the vet to the animal hospital in a matter of hours. LOOOOONG story short, he initially had problems shaking & trembling, and it progressed (even with a cortizone shot) to paralyzed back end within 2 days.

Fast forward to today (almost 10 weeks later and after surgery), he can support himself somewhat and is "mobile", but the legs cannot move to walk per se. He pushes off on them to "hop."

We return to the surgeon Tuesday. Presently she considers him at 65%.

There was just a big thread on this same subject on a doxie named Heidi. I haven't heard her updates recently . . . Barb?

Sorry! Don't know what to tell you, but I hope she gets better.

Thanks for your responses. Just an update, went to the vet and she has an absess (correct spelling?) on the joint in her hind leg. She was using her other leg this morning. The vet had to lance and drain it. She needs to be revaluated on Monday. She also has an upper respiratory infection. What a day!! I walked in to the Vets office crying but left smiling because she came home. Thanks again for your responses last night, it really helped!- Carrie
