Help "convert" a coaster chicken

Wow, you all have really given some great tips on how to "survive" some of these rides. My DD11 is telling me very adamantly that I WILL be riding TOT, so this may not be my "choice" at all. :rotfl2: I actually think you all have given me the courage to try it at least once. Part of my problem is the "anticipation" of it all, so if I can get in and get out quickly, it may not be so bad. Taking deep breaths seems to help a lot of you too, so that may be in the plan also. I just can't believe I may actually do this!

Memorymaker, to be honest, I don't remember there being any large drops on Space Mt, I do remember going up a steep hill and feeling that "oh no we're going DROP!" feeling, but it sort of jagged off to the side with no big drop, thank goodness! I think being in the dark actually helps because you can't see what's coming and feel the anticipation, plus it is so darn fast that you can hardly think about anything. I had a barrette in my hair and it was practically falling out of my hair by the end of the ride :earboy2: I have heard though that they blow fans to make it "seem" like you are going faster than you really are.

Bigmerle--my DS15 is the other chicken in our family, so he has "graciously" volunteered to sit with the 4 year old while the rest of us brave the scary rides. So there goes my excuse to sit out :teeth:

Now to make it through the next few months until we go....... :rolleyes1

OK, I have problems with Tachycardia. My heart rate is:sunny: irregular and when I experience drops I find this terrifying. However the thrill of TOT and RNR are so great that i go for them. I am still here and would do it again. I know I have survived numerous rides on these, and would do it again altough I would still be terrified!

I always think MICKEY WILL PROTECT ME!

Okay, I'm a coaster chicken too. But with me it's the upside down mostly. But anyways...I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but I speak from experience: TAKE THE FRONT CAR ON SPACE. I usually love that ride, but last trip I was put in the back car and got off wondering why I got on. Then I rode it again, requesting a front car, and it is about 40% as bad. Trust me, the front car makes it a lot better.

And a coaster to ride if you're chicken......Primeval Whirl. It's in AK, at Chester and Hester's Dinorama. It's more like a fair midway ride, but I absolutely LOVE IT. We rode it 5 times last trip!!! There's only 1 big drop, but it's fairly close to the beginning, and for the last half of the ride you spin as you get thrown from side to side, but do not get discouraged....you laugh the whole time.

A tip that helps me on big coasters......think of the souveniers you can buy when you're done. I rode RNRC just so I could get a t-shirt saying I did. That helps me get through. I have quite a collection of "I survived" type things. But maybe it's just me.......

My GF Nikkie was a big ride chicken before we went on our first WDW trip-- now I've gotten her to ride everything, and she loves all of them except ToT. She'll still ride it with me but she insists on holding onto me for dear life. :)

The thing about Rock n' Roller Coaster is, thare really are no drops, so to speak. After the launch, you immediately go into a double inversion that happens so quickly most first time riders don't even notice it. From there you go into a series of fast banking curves, with one more inversion later in the ride. I think anyone who has done Space Mountain will handle RnRC fine-- I find Space to be much scarier than RnRC, personally. RnRC is nice and smooth, while Space is jerky and rough.

RnRC is our favorite ride at WDW. We rode it 7 times on our last trip. :)

Make your partner promise to buy you a little gift when you finish the ride. That'll get you going!

I feel your pain! It took me a long time to learn to love coasters. My first WDW coaster was BTMRR....and I immediately loved it. I really recommend this one as a "first" coaster for kids or the faint of heart. Its my favorite ride now.

I must be the biggest chicken of them all! lol I went on BTMRR for the first time a couple of days ago and HATED it. I've heard that Disney spent all kinds of money on the scenery throughout the ride and I missed it all b/c I had my eyes squeezed shut and was clinging to my DH for dear life! Oh well. I guess I'll stick to iasw for now. :earsboy:

Try Goofy's Barnstormer in ToonTown . . . it is less than a minute long. My kids tell me that BTMRR is like it, only longer.

By the way, I screamed all through the Barnstormer and was furious that there was no T-Shirt available to declare my survival!!
