Help-confused about closures in June

I will be at DL June 4-7, 2009. I already know that Grad Night is scheduled for June 4, meaning that the parks will close early that night. I have been reading about a lot of other closures but can't figure out exactly what will still be down during this time.
1) What parades will be running? I think the electric parade in DCA will be down. Will the regular day-parade in DL be down too? Is it coming back? Or is it permanently replaced by the Street Party (and what exactly IS that? Does it include characters?) I assume the Pixar parade at DCA will be running.
2) I guess Fantasmic is being refurbished too? I saw somewhere that it won't be back until June 12.
3) RDCT - will that be down as well?? I think I saw reports that it will be.

I can't believe that all these parades and fireworks shows will be down in BOTH parks in June, supposedly the busy season (school is out, after Memorial Day, etc.) What is going on with DL? I hope it is not as bad as I am making it out to be. I have the impression that there will be no fireworks, and no real character parades Please help!

I just checked the June calendar and nothing is showing up for June. Where are you getting this information? I suggest waiting for the calendar to come before you get irritated.

Fantasmic will be down during your trip. The Electrical Parade apparently only runs in the peak season and is supposedly coming back in June (don't know the date). The "regular" parade (Parade of Dreams) is retired from what I understand. The Street Party has characters but they aren't really the focus and their presence is minimal. The Pixar Play Parade will probably still be running around dinner time each day.

As for the fireworks, I've heard different things. I know they're planning to eventually replace it with a new fireworks show but some people say the replacement will happen as soon as the new show is ready and some say they are waiting till the 55th anniversary next summer to make the swap. I personally would like to know the actual situation if anyone actually knows. At any rate, it sounds like you'll have fireworks one way or the other, just a question of which show.

Most schools are actually not out yet. I believe they are released sometime during the 2nd week of june. So the time you (and my family) will be there is NOT peak season. The RDCT show will be replaced by another show...and soon. But it will be showing, might just be on weekends though. Also yes, Fantasmic is down and will be until mid june. They need to make improvements and will have it up for summer busy season. The DEP also is not coming back until busy season starts.

I am sorry you are upset that things wont be showing but you will stil have a great time! I am super excited! Hey...it's Disneyland!

We don't know anything for sure until the schedule comes out, but I would say you can count on the "Celebrate! A Street Party!" running.

I don't know when that usually returns. Somewhere there is a calendar with that - someone will post the answer. Of course, we don't know if it is "same as last year" until it happens.

Not sure what you mean by the "regular parade." Celebrate! A Street Party! is the new regular "parade." It is a street party. There are dancers, stilt walkers, four (?) floats with a bunch of characters (Alice, Mad Matter, Stitch, Lilo, Chip, Dale, a female chipmunk whose name I don't know , Bert, Mary Poppins, Wendy, Peter Pan, Tigger, Pooh, Pinocchio, Ghepetto, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Mickey and Minnie - and probably others I am forgetting). Kids are invited from the crowd to get into the action in conga line. It last about 15-20 minutes in one location along the parade route, then moves along to the next stop and takes place again for the next group of viewers.

I assume the Pixar parade at DCA will be running.

Again, we never know until the schedule is out.

RDCT is the fireworks show from the Year(s) of a Million Dreams. Just like the Parade of Dreams, it is expected to go away. CMs have said that there will be a new fireworks show. No one knows when the switch of shows will take place.

I think part of it is your categorization of things. There is a parade at DL. It's just something different now - a street party. There are (and by all reports, will be) fireworks. There is never Fantasmic right now. I know some colleges are out by Memorial Day, but I believe most high schools run into mid June, no?

I just did some on-line research and found that last year Fantasmic began running 7 nights a week on June 13th.

The DLR calendar has only been getting updated approximately 6 weeks ahead of time, and they seem to update it about one-day-at-a-time. Right now the official calendar only goes to Tuesday, May 12.

Although it's not official, it seems likely that the Pixar Play Parade will be shown every day.

Disney's Electrical Parade (DEP) is getting refurbed: a new Tinkerbell float, updated soundtrack, etc. There hasn't been anything official said about the DEP, but MiceChatters expect the DEP to return to DCA on Friday, June 12.

Fantasmic is never running during this time of year. It was only running during January - March because of the construction on Main Street that made parades not possible. We have heard they are making updates, etc.., but they always do that during this usual down-time, as one would expect.

For the first two weeks in June 2008, Fantasmic was only being shown on the weekends. Fantasmic probably would have been showing on weekends in early-June this year, but Fantasmic is expected to be down for a refurb from March 29 to June 11, 2009. This year Fantasmic is expected to be shown nightly during the summer, starting on Friday, June 12.

Last year Fantasmic was shown Fri/Sat/Sun from March to mid-June, and nightly for 2 weeks during spring break. (And also nearly every day from mid-June to Labor Day.)

Schools on the West Coast tend to get out much later than further East. Many public schools will not be out until mid-June.

Sigh... Allow me to be more thorough in my above explanation since apparently my effort to help calm only caused me to be attacked.

Fantasmic has been shown every single night through all of January, February, and a good part of March. This is what I was referring to above. This is NOT what is usually done. It was done to compensate to guests for not having parades (and for the most part fireworks) during the Main Street construction.

Columbia, if you reference the calendars you linked to above, you will find that Fantasmic was dark from January 14, 2008 - March 13, 2008. During those dates in 2009 it ran every single day, twice a night on many days.

The parade uses 500,000 lightbulbs now, powered by 500 batteries.

More than 50 six-volt batteries power the same number of costumes worn by performers — lighting up 11, 000 bulbs.

Since July, 2001, the parade has been performed about 620 times in California Adventure.

Fantasmic has been down since after the Christmas Season. It under went a major lighting overhaul and a few other changes as well.

The new lighting consists of many fixtures including, Clay Paky Alpha Wash 1200’s, ColorKinetic ColorBlast 12’s, 5kW Syncrolites, High End Systems AF1000’s strobes, ColorKinetic ColorBlast TR UV’s, ETC Source Four Pars with Color scrollers (brand unknown).

Fantasmic is usually shown on weekends throughout the year.

Fantasmic is also shown twice nightly during the following periods:
- spring break (two weeks)
- "summer" (mid-June to Labor Day -- except for the last few weekdays in August)
- Thanksgiving week
- Christmas/New Year's (mid-December to mid-January).

Those dates are just typical; your best bet is to check the official listings.

Fantasmic would probably have been showing on the weekends in early-June 2009, but this year Fantasmic is being refurbed from March 29 to June 11.

But we really won't know about Fantasmic's return until the official calendar gets updated.

Hello fellow Colorado Springs resident! We recently moved here so it's nice to see another diser in Colorado.

That being said, that is also why we are going because the kids are out of school.

Luckily I saw all of the parades and fireworks last summer, but I was so looking forward to seeing them again!
