Not sure how it happened ugh but my coffee just spilled all over the table and laptop. Posting from phone. Help, any advice?

I bought a huge bag of rice and place my laptop in it after carefully (without pressure) removed the standing liquid off. It worked quite well for me. My water was mostly on the actual screen and not the components on the bottom.

I hope you get the information you need to save your laptop!!!!! P.S. The rice won't hurt it so it may be worth a try.

OMG....I did the same thing with my keyboard and smart phone- one full cup got two devices. Sorry to tell you, I had to replace both. And I tried the rice thing and it didn't work for me. Most expensive cup of coffee I ever had.

If the rice thing doesn't work...
You could take it to a repair place and see what it would cost. You could also put it through your homeowners....but you would have to consider the deductible and risk of raising the rates....if you have homeowners.

So sorry. Good luck

My DD spilled water over the keyboard. It was the end of the day before she confessed.

After 2-3 days we got some functionality back (came back bit by bit). But the keyboard no longer works properly. The mousepad works. My DH ended up attaching a keyboard with a USB cable. The laptop now works - but it's sure a pain. Still, it will be an extra.

We're now on the hunt for a new laptop :(

I got caught in the rain with my Blackberry and buried it in rice overnight. Functionality gradually returned but 1 key was permanently not working. It was the on/off/end call key - so it became a major problem. Really bad when leaving a message on someone's voicemail and I can't end the call - they have to listen to long minutes of silence until their VM kicks me off!

I got a new cell.

Ugh...maybe try tilting it up on one side to drail out any liquid you can? Then make sure it's dry before trying to turn it on.

I would unplug it take the battery out and let it sit for 24 to 48 hours before plugging it in. If it dries out it may be OK, other that that I think you may be out of luck. I'm sorry.

I did this and then quickly took the laptop to our local repair guys told them what happend and they took it apart, dried it out, and sprayed some anti rust stuff inside for about $40. Took a few days to get it back, but worth it!

A few years ago while camping, my kids had my husband's laptop open in the camper watching a DVD. I had a cup of coffee in my hand and tripped over one of the dogs when he stood up too quick and coffee went sloshing all over his laptop. I tried to clean it up, drain it off, etc. and powered it down taking out the battery, etc. but it still needed to be replaced. According to the repair people, if it had been only water it could maybe have been saved, but the sugar and cream in the coffee is what did it in. Sugar hardening on the components inside, cream is well...cream. Thicker, heavier...definitely not good for the computer's insides. :badpc:

Sorry OP...hope your coffee was black and it doesn't die on you.

I, too, hope it was black coffee.

Put it in rice and *leave it there*. Don't turn it on, don't mess with it. Put it in there for at least a few days, if not longer. Just let it sit.

After that, hopefully it will work.

I spilled a beer on my macbook. It slowly regained its abilities, but ultimately I finally replaced it, because whenever it got humid outside it got worse. I think the beer residue swelled, and made it sticky inside. You can imagine how bad it was when I brought it to WDW!

With mine, we put it in rice, took it out too soon. Over time I realized that it had sticky keys, and the function (I think) key never worked again. While trying to get it to work over time I managed to put it into "safe boot" mode, which made me have to use a wire for connection. Finally I realized that the "airport" wasn't actually dead, it's just that you can't use the airport when in safe boot mode. I had to count the number of times I hit "shift" and turn it off then on until I finally got it right, LOL. (hitting "shift" while booting up changes the safe boot mode)

But it just never felt "safe" again, which is why I replaced it.

I did the exact same thing to my laptop yesterday. I was so mad at myself, my coffee had creamer in it. Mine still works but several keys aren't working. Right now I attached a keyboard to it. My dad works with computers a lot so he's going to try to replace the keyboard in it and if that doesn't work I guess I will be getting a new computer. It's only a year old so I hate the idea of having to shell out money I don't really have :headache:

Once I spilled a glass of wine on a laptop.

It fried the HDD... the other lasting damage was the keyboard was always "sticky". Replaced the HDD and it worked fine. That happened to it when it was like a month old, I ended up giving it to my DH because it was a DELL and I hated it, replaced it with a Mac. He used it for a few years and never had any problems with it (besides the keys sticking a lot).

OP here...

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm happy to say it's okay! :lmao:

I did take out the battery and let it sit for 24 hours and thank you God, it's okay.

I'm being very careful now.

Sorry so many of you had similar issues.

(That silly caffeine & vino addition lol ;) :rotfl: )
