Help choose which Kindle to buy 3G or Wifi?

Ditto. I don't miss having shelves and shelves of books. I have plenty of practice guides I need to keep around for work. Being able to donate 95% of the rest felt GREAT. Now I just want a few inches of shelf space for our e-readers. Got the 3G KSO this afternoon. Was able to take advantage of the half price lighted cover. I would like to see a half-price Amazon Prime membership offer.

The smell of a real book is paper, glue, chemicals off put by their manufacturing processes, and occasionally mold. Not to mention the odors you brought up!

I love ereaders- love everything about them. I haven't bought a hardback book in almost 3 years.

If I remember right did you say your daughter is in college? If so they have a link where college students get it free for a year! I signed up and its nice not paying for shipping and it's delivered in 2 days! Let me know and I can try and fish for that link.

I agree with this here.

But I don't think the $60 dollar lighted case is worth it. The kindle is much lighter and easier to hold out of the case.

See, thats another it really depends on the person kind of thing, because I love my lighted case! I didn't pay full retail for it though.

I got a kindle mainly because I didn't want to haul a stack of books on vacation with me. In all honesty I didn't think I'd like using an e-reader and wasn't sure how much I'd use it once I got home. But I'm definitely a convert. In fact I just downloaded the kindle edition of a book that is sitting right across the room on my bookshelf because I like reading on the kindle so much more.

Mine is the 3G version, but I'm thinking about getting a wifi with offers version to have as a back up.

If you could locate that link I'd appreciate it. My older DD is in college and the younger is headed there. They are both on my Amazon account, as is my mother. I got her a Kindle for mother's day and I'm afraid I've made a monster! She calls me once a day to tell me how amazing the Kindle is. I say, "Yes, Mom... that's why I got you one!"

I keep thinking I should call and ask if there's any other way to get her signed up, but I haven't done it yet.

I'm a nursing student & have amazon prime. I love it. I've been reading all the kindle threads & am going to order mine within the next few days. I think I'm just going with the wifi with special offers. I don't think I'll need the 3G. As a student & mom of 3, I just can't see spending the extra money of that when I have wifi at home. Not in my budget and I believe it would be a waste for me. I can't wait to get my kindle.

Except your logic fails to take into consideration that you had to buy a $114 - $189 device on which to read those reduced cost electronic copies. So aren't they, in fact, costing you more per purchase up until the point you've purchased enough electronic books across which to spread the startup cost and break even? You don't need any device to read a physical book.

Yes, a Kindle has an up front cost, but when balanced out against the cost of bookcases for DTB storage and the cost of going out to get books, it's not all that significant an investment. Especially when you consider that the Kindle will last for years.

I read on it at night in bed and after an hour my eyes are burning.

Whereas, on a cold winter weekend, I can just sit and read my Kindle literally all day long. No eye strain.
