Hi All,

Its been a while since I posted anything on here as we never had any trips planned but I have been reading your posts and trip reports which has been lovely.
So, we are going back and need some help please. Its our 25th wedding anniversary on 14th November 2012 and we have decided to take a trip then. I have had a look at some flights but they have gone up hugely since we were last there, can anyone suggest an airline or different routes to consider. There will be just the 2 of us and don't mind when we go as long as we are there on 14th.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Cath :)

We were thinking of any London airport really. We want 2 weeks or a bit longer. The cheapest I have seen so far direct is about £500 with Virgin, when we went back in 2007 we paid £299 but those days are long gone aren't they! :confused3

Thanks,

Cath :)

£299 direct are long gone unfortunately.
Best I see just now is £474 for most dates in Nov if you have 2,000 miles per person to use, around £517 if not. Might be better if you wait for an offer but no-one knows if the prices will drop or not.

Thanks, yes, it was what I saw. As its a special occasion I would like to get something booked then I can save better!! Would you recommend a package holiday, are they a bit cheaper?

You have to check all options for your dates, I did check charter flights for your dates but the cheapest showing was £702+.
Always possible a package will be cheaper but they rarely are for us, our next trip is costing about £4,500, VH wanted almost £10,000 Last time I found a good priced package for us was Xmas 2008 but we only go in school holidays, packages tend to be cheaper offpeak.

£500 direct is a great price.

The tax alone is just under £300 a person now

Hope you get sorted.

I have just checked my booking for July to see how much the taxes & fees are now.
This is One way PE, no cost for ticket as we used miles (economy will be less)

Air Passenger duty £120
Collection of minor taxes £24.29
Fuel surcharge £87.50
Total cost £231.79pp

Taxes and surcharges make it almost impossible for really cheap fares but they do sometimes happen offpeak when they are depsperate to fill the seats.

A week or so ago we booked our flights for next Nov (3-17) - VA M+M £470 each. We were ready to book at £555 using no miles as didn't expect M+M fares with Sat-Sat flights.
Hope you get it sorted :)

Interestingly, we're booked with another airline (indirect) and it lists air passenger duty as just £60 - but the total fees, with the fuel surcharge, come to £306!! Our "base fare" is under £60 each way :confused3

OP £500 for direct is very good these days; for indirect I'd be looking for £350 but haven't even seen that for a while (though I only really look during the school holidays). November is supposed to be a lovely time to visit Orlando :)

I've just double checked and we've paid £293.30 tax each for our October 2012 flights. Flying Delta MAN to MCO via Atlanta.

I wonder why the tax varies so much?

It varies so much because airlines hide their running costs in the taxes & fees, if you get a breakdown of your costs (does it tell you on your e-ticket?) it probably says something like YQ 175.00. YQ = Fuel surcharge, this is going to the airline for running costs not to the government in taxes. The actual taxes will be more like £130pp the rest is probably airline fees/surcharges.
Our one way PE flight is £144.29 taxes, the other £87.50 going to VA to cover fuel costs.
