Help!! My pet freinds! my cat is having a skin recation from having fleas over two months ago. THe vet told us to put her in a dog shirt. Well this is working for her neck but she has huge sores on her belly too. We were just at the vet today and got a depo shot to help with the itching but her belly sores are pussing (sorry tmi). I tried some gauze and wrapping it with coban but its her lower belly (between her back legs) and she keeps getting it off (and limping when its on. Were trying to advoid the cone head, simply because she wouldnt be able to use her teeth to defend herself against my sassy boy cat. HelP? TIA!

You could try putting neosporin on the boo boos. My Mom has done this and was told that it wouldn't hurt the kitty if they licked it. Not sure about a bandage though.

Could you get some doggy shorts or a doggie skirt?Or a longer skirt? How big is kitty? I am just kidding about the skirt.

Poor little kitty! Maybe get him a cone and keep the two kitties separate while he is healing? He could probably use some rest anyway. I think though, wrapping him in gauze sounds appropriate, but it is in a bad spot. Not to be gross, but I would want it covered to keep the puss off of everything he lays on. And of course to keep the germs off of his wounds. Could you get a baby onsie on him? Just cut hole for his paws and tail.

Yea! i agree! im trying to keep her wound clean and our house pus free. I was thinking a onsie, but how would kitty do her buiness? I dont think I wanna deal with kitty diapers after doing diaper duty at work all day:rotfl:

Cats are far too dignified for diapers. lol. They won't like the onesie either. I am thinking it would need a large hole for the tail and business. It really just needs enough material to cover the wounds and stay up, so like think straps of material under the back paws and up the back? Maybe you could use some paper medical tape (on the material) to fasten it together on the kitties back? Just don't make it too tight and leave a big tail/business end hole. If kitty gets poop or whatever on it, just toss it and use a new one. See now I wish you lived near me, I would love to try to fashion a kitty outfit/bandage. lol.

The vet didn't give you any kind of steroid or cream for your cat?? Sometimes they'll prescribe an oral antibiotic to help with the sores and also because it secretes a bitter taste in the fur that parasites hate. I'd go back. Also, your best bet would be to stop letting your cat out since the poor thing obviously has a bad reaction to the fleas.

any advice on how to get little precious to walk after I dress her? Right now I managed to get her cobanded, by attaching it around her upper back leg. She can walk just fine but wont. used a ace bandage to keep the shirt tight. I figured it was much better than the duct tape we tried last night! This poor cats gonna hate me. First we covered them in vasoline, then lemon juice, and finally dish soap (to kill the fleas) then we cover her in more goop and bandage her.I think i need to sleep with the door shut tonnight:rotfl:

Could all of that be what irritated her skin? Lol you better lock the door. She might be plotting revenge.

Go to a drugstore and get some Domeboro powder. You mix it with water and then soak a cloth in it and put that on the animals 'open wound'. Keep it there for as long as the cat will allow you to...a short period of time is better than no time. This acts as a cleanser and drying agent...makes the animal feel a bit better too!!
I use this for my golden's hotspots...well, back when he was still getting them, and it works wonderfully.

So, update, kitty got cobanded, is half wearing a tee, and is totally angry! She managed to pull her front legs out of her shirt so there just hanging there but its still on thanks to the first aid tape (over the top). Her stomach is healing better now that we taped that too (guauze underneth). Last night she bit me twice while I was sleeping and then peed in my shoe.... I think shes pissed.:rotfl:

For fleas I have started giving my cats a Brewers Yeast tablet daily. It seems to be helping. Two cats eat it out of my hand and the 3rd I have to poke it down her mouth and get her to swallow. Last cat is a no go unfortunately but I figure if I can get a handle on the other 3 she will have less as well.

If the wounds have pus, I would think the cat should be on an antibiotic. Wounds like that can cause sepsis if they get infected.

I hope she feels better soon:goodvibes.

Well we went with ace wrap at the vet suggestion, She wants us to bring her in next week for a wellness check. cats still pissed@

Curad makes a mesh tube to put over gauze on arms/legs to help hold it in place. I've bought it at Walgreens for DH since he uses it to cover mountain bike injuries. I'm wondering if you bought the small size and put it over the gauze with holes cut for her legs (you might even be able to just spread the mesh openings depending on the size of the cat's legs) if the gauze would stay put. Here's a link to the product called Hold Tite http://curad.com/products/Gauze/hold-tite.asp. Sending healing thoughts to your kitty.
