Help!! can't get photos to backup

i have nero express 6 and photoshop e5, have used both before to make backups, trying to do so with latest photos and neither will work... with nero it takes 8+ hrs for one dvd to burn then it fails in validation and when i check the disc all the photos are not there.
photoshop once again is not recognizing my previous backups so i would have to burn the whole thing again and i only have about 6 discs left....
i tried going straight to the files and adding them like i was burning a disc, it failed, i tried doing it automatically as a backup it failed..i have spent 2 days on this and it is not working. i was able to backup what i had on my hard drive but not on the external drive.
i still have some of the new photos on card
since i don't know if this is due to them being on my external drive i thought maybe i could just burn them from the card reader but can't figure out how to do that....any suggestions would be helpful

Sorry I can't help you, but I understand how you feel. I'm trying to down load some pictures so I can copy them and it's telling me there is no room. So am trying to figure out how I can burn them. I also have the Nero. Good luck. If I figure it out i'll let you know.

Have you added any software/hardware lately? Updated any drivers? If so, try removing then reinstalling Nero.

How long have you had the DVD burner? They can get dirty after alot of use. Ask you local Best Buy Geek Squad person how to clean/troubleshoot your DVD.

DVD burners have gotten pretty cheap. Try getting a second one (if your PC will take a second, or get a USB version) if the other solutions above don't work.

the dvd burner is less than a yr old and everything else seems to be working fine. i have a dvd cleaner for my dvd player but don't know if that is the same type of cleaning.
i'll try reinstalling nero
