Last two years we've stayed at WL & akl. We're considering a moderate this year likely pofq or caribbean. Will we be disappointed in mod instead of a deluxe? We're in our rooms/resort more than the typical touring family. We always do deluxe dining so food choices are important. Hers what I'm currently considering. 10-14 nights at a mod or 7 nights at our dream resort, the poly. So I guess this has 3 ?'s to it.
1. Will we be disappointed going mod after our first two trips were deluxe.
2. Would you do 10-14 nights at pofq or Caribbean or would you do 7 nights the poly (our dream resort)
3. What if choice was 7 nights at mod or 7 nights at the poly?
Thanks for all help in advance

I will only speak from the experiences we had with WL and CBR. We had exclusively stayed at value resorts up until last year when we opted to stay at CBR. We were excited to be staying at a moderate. Well, we were completely not impressed with CBR. The grounds are nice, and we had some good customer service. We hated the size, the place is pretty large. We are fit people and I will say that after walking in the parks all day, with 2 small kids in tow, the last thing you want to have to do is walk 10 minutes to grab a snack or fill your mug. The rooms are a good size, but the theme was just okay IMO. The food court was not good. At all.

Now, last month we stayed 11 days WL CL. It could not be more wonderful!! The theming, the size, the restaurants, the customer service, all of it WONDERFUL!!! But, you've stayed there before, so you know....:thumbsup2

I would definitely stay at WL again, but never want to stay ay CBR again. However, both trips were great!!! The resort didn't ruin our trip or anything.

To answer your questions, I think
1) you might be happier at POFQ. I've never stayed there, but it is smaller than CBR for sure
2) if my choice was 10-14 nights at POFQ or 7 nights Poly, I'd chose POFQ. Longer trip every time, except at CBR.
3) if the nights were even, I'd pick 7 nights Poly.

Not sure if that helps, but good luck in your decision!

So did you like the values better than cbr? Also yep I loved WL & it wasn't even cl.

We loved cbr. We stay all levels and go very frequently 5 times within the past year). We also stayed in the Trinidad south section which is the furthest section from the amenities. Maybe a 7-10 minute walk and I have two two year olds. It is large for sure but so are so many other resorts (the poly is spread out as well). I found the food court average but did not try the TS restaurant. If spool is important to you then IMO it has one of the best pools on property. The grounds are fantastic and very pretty and tranquil.

I haven't stayed at POFQ as it doesn't interest us much (we are native new orleanians). I do think it's compact size is a plus. It also has queen beds where cbr only has full size beds.

As to would you be disappointed in a moderate? I don't think so. As I said previously, we switch between deluxe to value to moderate. Each resort is special and we enjoy them all. Some say CSR has more of a deluxe feel. We stayed there in June and I could see that. It has the best dining options (IMO) of a moderate and we really enjoyed the Mayan grill (the TS).

I would always stay longer at WDW rather than a shorter stay.

And your third question, I would pick the poly but I dn't know your budget or your finances. If its a hardship to stay deluxe, then nope, I wouldn't do it.

I agree with the PP, you will be disappointed w/ CBR after staying at WL and AKL. It is much larger, and I am not a huge fan of the themeing compared to other resorts on property. POFQ is a charming resort. I loved staying there. However, your only food choice is QS. You have to go to POR for a TS meal or you can always take a lovely boat ride to DTD. I also like POR (just stayed in a Royal Guest room last month..amazing!) and CSR. CSR has the best food options of the mods, I think. The QS place is very good..or at least it was when I stayed there several years ago. We'll be going back there in a few weeks, so hoping it is still just as good!

If it were me, I'd probably be do the 7 days at a mod and 7 at a deluxe. A couple years ago we did 9 days at POP. I love POP, I really do (I'd actually choose it over CBR), but prior to that trip we'd only stayed there 3 days max. All my previous week long trips had been at mods. I really started missing the extra space, quiet pools and in room refrig, and ease of parking that I'd experienced at mods, specifically POR. I can imagine I'd feel the same way about spending 14 days at a mod if all my prior experience had been at deluxes.

We've stayed at CBR and had a great time and loved the resort. But with that said, that was our first stay onsite and once we tried a deluxe the following year, we haven't stayed anything since. I am probably in the minority, but if I had to choose between a mod for 14 nights and the Poly for 7 nights, my choice would be the Poly for 7 nights. We spend more time at the resort than we do in the parks, so the resort is important to us and we would shorten our trip if we had to in order to stay where we wanted to stay. Good luck.

We stayed at WL in 2010 and then at CSR in 2011.

We preferred CSR over WL...A LOT...and would choose it over WL in a heartbeat (unless WL was free :rotfl2:). Bigger room, much cleaner, better quick dining option, more pool options, buses that aren't shared with another resort.

CSR is a great in that it truly does feel more like a deluxe (at least as much as WL did to us) than a moderate.

I'd choose the Poly for 7 nights too

Another suggestion could you split your stay say POR for 4 or so nights and the Poly for 5? That gives you a few more days at WDW and lets you try a mod to see if you like it for a longer trip next time

We normally stay at the Poly. Last year I did a girls trip and decided to save some money and chose POFQ. I was really impressed how much I liked it.

So, for our surprise trip on the 22 of this month, we decided to stay at POFQ since we are doing another trip next year.

I like that POFQ is smaller than the other moderates and like having the boat option to DTD.

I've even had to stay offsite a couple of times (gasp) after making a habit of deluxe Disney resorts. It was not quite as magical as my druthers; but still, a trip to WDW is about the most magical thing in the known universe. Am I right? I will stay where I must in order to get to go, BUT I will almost always choose a shorter more deluxe trip than a longer less deluxe trip... Cause I'm spoiled... :joker:

Nope not a hardship. Wouldn't do that to my family. That being said I'm not sure we can afford the poly in the future as our now 2 yo will be 3 or older. We're a family of 5. 7 nights deluxe, 7 mod is not an option. I'm not sure about the 5/4 wife hates switching resorts mid trip. I'm really appreciating the input so far and it's really helping.

what are kid's ages that makes a difference too for me. The Poly will give you the easiest transportation especially with a stroller for the 2yr old

Disney makes switching resorts pretty easy mid trip. They move your bags for you you just have to check out and check in :) with minimal interruption to your park day. If you do end up with a split stay do the Poly last!

What about 9-10 days at Beach Club? Fun pool for the kids and a little longer stay but still a deluxe

I def don't think you will be disappointed with a mod! I have stayed in almost every Disney hotel and the only one I was disappointed in was All Star Sports!
That place was a nightmare!
I would always choose to stay at Disney longer over a stay at Poly and Poly is by far my fav resort.
If the choice was 7 at either I would def choose poly!
Also maybe you can split your stay up say do 5 nights at poly and the other nights at CBR. by the way I prefer CBR over POFQ. I know CBR is huge but I love the theming and the grounds are beautiful!
Good luck

She still has to pack everything back up ;). Kids are 7,5,2.

We have stayed at all level of Disney resort, and as long as I'm in a Disney resort, I don't care if it's a value, mod, deluxe or DVC, I'm happy with most of them. We won't stay at the All Stars, CBR, or AKL, but that is just personal preference. We choose where we stay based on time of year, budget, and length of stay and if we are celebrating something or just a long weekend.

I'm not really sure which of your options I would choose, as we haven't stayed at the Poly, but we have stayed at POFQ, which we love and CBR, which we hated. I think if this was your last chance to fit Poly into your budget/family size, I would choose Poly. You would be close to the MK and Epcot.

I couldn't imagine squeezing that many people in a room at POFQ or CBR, but that is because I'm used to it just being DH and myself (no children).

My husband and I stayed at CBR in 2009. We thought it was a nice resort but the past 2 years, and this year, we will be staying at the Poly. I do believe you will be disappointed in your resort selection, only because you have stayed deluxe, I know we've been spolied by staying deluxe. If I were in your shoes, I would absolutely stay at the Poly for 7 nights, that's what we will be doing in 25 days!!! We had also considered staying at POFQ because it is quite a bit cheaper but in the end I said "it's vacation that comes around once each year so we might as well do it how we really want."
Good luck deciding!!

yes that's true unless you crazy like me and pack 4 days in 1 suitcase and the remaining days in another so I don't have to touch the 2nd bag until the next resort. We drive so don't have to deal with the airline fees and junk so it doesn't bother us and we like trying resorts out since we usually can't go while free dining is offered

I think with the ages of your kids I'd stick to 1 week at the Poly. Between the pool and the ease of transportation it'll be a great 7 day trip. I like the mods don't get me wrong. We stay in mods the majority of our trips but the Poly is my fave resort followed by Beach Club so I'm very partial to those two.

I would stay at POFQ for 10+ nights before I stayed at Poly for just 7. Choose the amount of nights you want to stay first then choose the best resort in your budget for that time. Considering the room as just a place to sleep and sometimes swim, the other resorts and their themes can be enjoyed with dinner or a quick boat ride/monorail ride. If I was to plan longer stay that would require some budget tweeking, I would choose POFQ if I could. Unfortunately my DS's are teen/preteen and we need options that include an extra bed or room for a cot. Enjoy your stay. I hear POFQ is the best of the Mods because the size is manageable.
