Hi all - am really hoping that someone can advise me on this!! We are starting our holiday on the 13th January - our first family holiday for years!! We should be joined by DD24 who works in Lanzarote BUT she has just had emergency surgery on Monday 13th (right ovary and right fallopian tube removed). The questions I would like advise on are
1. I am persuming that I will have to let our insurers know about this - yes?
2. Is it likely that they will make us cancel?
3. What limitations do you think we should put on activities - I am thinking that maybe swimming would be risky due to infections - what do you think?
4. I am also thinking that rides in IOA would be out and maybe other roller coasters would be off limits - what are other peoples thoughts?
Has anyone gone on holiday such a short time after surgery as this?
Any advise?? Please input as this is giving me sleepless nights at the moment - want the holiday desperately DD24 doesnt want me to get in touch with insurers as she hasnt had a holiday for about 6 years - apart from trips home which apparently dont count!! But i think that would be foolhardy with cost of medical care in usa if anything did go wrong.

Oh thats so sad, I would hate to possibly miss my holiday so late in the day.
My DH has health issues, I think you have to be upfront with your insurers, I think it`s no exaggeration that you could be bankrupted if something went wrong and the insurers would`nt pay.
However saying that I think there`s alot of light at the end of the tunnel.
We got insurance with M&S, they said they would insure DH as long as he was`nt travelling against his Doctors advice. So even if your present insurers turn you down others might not.
With your other concerns, see what your DD`s Doctors say.
Very best wishes
Julie.

If something does go wrong and your didn't advise your insurers of a 'known pre-existing condition', then your DDs insurance would be invalid and they would be in their rights not to pay a penny!

Medical bills in the US are VERY expensive, and if your DD needed a lengthy stay in hospital and flight home, the bill could easily run into $100,000s!

The best thing is to get a letter from her doctor saying she is fit to travel and then inform her insurers. It may also be a good idea to shop round because some insurance companies deal with pre-existing medical conditions better than others.

As for going on rides etc. - I would suggest your DD discusses this with her doctor or surgeon.

Oh thats sad :(

I think you need seek proper medical advice before worrying about insurance details. Whether the advice comes back as positive or negative you should then approach your insuarance company with the details. It's too big a risk to take as you could end up out of pocket :(

Fingers crosssed for a positive result.
