I have a question that I should know, but don't. Is Easter Vigil separate from Easter Sunday mass? What I mean is, if you go to Christmas Eve mass, you don't go on Christmas morning. Is the same true for Easter? I am just trying to figure out the Holy Triduum. Some sites I have looked at give different info. Thanks!

Easter Vigil counts for Easter Sunday Mass.

Thanks, that makes sense. My daughter is required to attend certain masses for confirmation and they have tonight listed. We attended mass for Holy Thursday and Good Friday and I was trying to figure out if she had to attend Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.

Easter vigil mass though around where I"m from is usually the LOOONG mass as it is when the new members of the church are baptized, receive communion for the 1st time and get confirmed. It usually runs about 2 hours. Its neat to watch once but it is just too long for me.

Yeah, I know the feeling, but it is REQUIRED for the pre-confirmation students to attend the 3 masses. I called the church to double check what they wanted.

The Easter Vigil is my FAVORITE Mass of the year. I have to miss it tonight to pick up DS14 at the airport--it was a tough call which one to do :rotfl: . Seriously though, it is such a special Mass. We had a great priest at our old church that sang quite a bit of the mass. I am really going to miss that here!

I get nervous around the small children who are given candles! I took my oldest when she was 8, so she could see what it was like. I had some 4 year old next to me waving a candle around with parents who were less than attentive.

What a coincidence! Easter Vigil is also my favorite, and I have to pick up my DS at the airport, too! In fact, I'm in the car Dising on my laptop. He's coming home from spring break at WDW.

Our priest also sings much of the Mass. It's so beautiful; there's a white curtain covering the main crucifix/statue of Jesus in front of the church at the altar, and when we sing the Alleiluia (sp), the curtain opens to reveal the risen Jesus. I'm soo going to miss it tonight.

What a nice way to bring in the 'new year' for the church. I might have to suggest this to our priest! Our DS is coming back from his spring break trip too, only from CHINA. I am so anxious to hear how everything went. His flight from Chicago just left a few minutes ago and is scheduled to arrive 30 minutes early so we need to leave soon to get him!

I now attend a Lutheran church and Easter Vigil is one of the things I miss most about being a Catholic.

Easter Vigil is also my favorite Mass. They are doing 8 readings at tonight's Mass, so it's going to be pretty long. I love the part where we sing "Glory to God in the Highest" and then lower the curtain to reveal the Christ figure - but we have the risen Christ instead of the crucifix at our church. It's definitely a very meaningful Mass.

The pastor we had before used to sing, and he had such a beautiful voice. I miss hearing him sing.

Yeah, our vigil Mass is at 8 pm tonight and it's a loooong one! I went to our Good Friday evening service and it was 90 minutes. It was very moving, we passed a large Cross throughout the Church. (I like the "quiet" at the end of this service!)

We'll have 4 Masses in the Church on Sunday and 3 more in the gym. They do the same on Christmas Eve - nuthin' like going to Mass in the gym!

I'm an ordained Lutheran minister and I can't imagine why that would be the case???

In the Lutheran Church the Easter Vigil is the highest day of the Christian calendar!

Aside from being the longest liturgy of the Church year, it is also the first at which the body of Christ proclaims, "He is Risen," "He is Risen Indeed."

My theology professor told us that if you went to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil you experience the Christian experience at it's most complete.

My DN's Confirmation class required attendance at those three services and to this day she still loves them.

Well, I only made the first two this year. I dropped dd off tonight and will pick her up in about an hour. I am taking my two much younger children to mass in the morning and then the egg hunt afterwards.

I'm going to a High Mass tomorrow morning too. DN went to Easter vigil out at her school though, she called me on her way there to say she missed going with me-turned me into a pile of mush!! I've been taking her to Mass since she was a baby, and I really miss it now that she's in college.

I just came from Easter vigil tonight (not Catholic though but Episcopalian) and it was looong. Long because it includes many readings, renewal of baptism vows, Prayers of People, hymns, a sermon, and communion. I loved the lighting of the Paschal Candle and when we all lit our candles from it.

Tomorrow I am going Easter Sunday morning service. I'm one of the lay readers tomorrow and it's going to be a big crowd!
