My Dad is almost 70 and is impossible to buy for. The fall back gift is always a polo shirt. But I'm tyring to come up with something. He is single. Lives alone. It's all Golf and Church. That's it. And he has everything for Golf there is. He is not into gadgets or electronics. He's just tough. In the past I have gotten him NYTimes crossword puzzle books. Gift certificates to his favorite restaurant. But I can't come up with anything.
So what are you getting for your Father?

Oh Yeah! NETFLIX!! thanks that's a good one!

Sometimes when someone is really hard to buy a gift for, forgoing a gift (or finding a small gift) and getting a ridiculously cool birthday cake for them instead isn't a bad way to go. Maybe contact a local bakery and see if they can do something like make a cake in the shape of a golfball?

java - aren't you near NE PA? You could get him some sort of gift cert to the new casino in Bethlehem...that's something he proabbly hasn't done before. Netflix is a great idea! We're practical around here, I get the dads gas station gift cards!

How about making him a fruit and snack basket?

Usually seniors think fruit is an extravagance-add nuts, cheese, crackers etc

My dad will be turning 70 in Dec. His hobbies are fishing and bridge.

Does your dad read? I know my dad likes the latest books on bridge. And even though he has a ton of golf stuff, I am sure a gift certificate to the pro shop might be something he could use.

I buy my dad a gift card from Bass Pro as well. Never had enough fishing supplies.;)

We give dh's mom a QT card. She loves that.

Lotto and chocolate.
Gift cards to place she and my mother like to go for lunch.

He always says "The only gift I need is for you kids ot be healthy and happy".

We got my dad and dfil both the book, Where are they Buried a few years ago. As odd as it sounds, they both loved it and keep it by their TVs to look up older stars in the tv shows and movies they watch.

My dad gave it as a gift last year to all of his friends, I guess guys in their 70's like to look up old stars! Neither is what you would call a reader, but they both enjoyed this.

a rain gauge or weather station thingy he can put outside

a hummingbird feeder

a big fruit basket, crate of oranges, or dried fruit platter (old folks love it 'cuz it helps them poop! :lmao:) from one of those fancy schmancy places like harry and david. Or one of their "food gift every month" subscriptions.

a subscription to a magazine

fancy chocolates or candy

a pretty plant of some sort, or some kind of novelty plant like lucky bamboo or a mini pepper plant in a fancy pot

if you've noticed he always wears the same shirt, jacket, etc. pick out a nice new one from sears or something

a puppy (j/k :rotfl2:)

Some of my older male customers love getting gift cards from my hair salon for Fathers Day. I have one guy who got one once and was able to get his hair cut for a whole year. His daughter hasn't bought it since. He tells me every year to tell his daughter to get him another that it was his best gift. Who would have thought?!

I make a homemade card for my Dad and bake a pie, cake, or coconut macaroons. Something he loves but would never make for himself. He seems to enjoy the present and really enjoys the homemade card. :goodvibes

I love gift cards for seniors. Gas cards, gift card to the car wash, barbershop, his favorite buffet. My dad loved to get new walking shoes. But his hands-down favorite was the squirrel feeder and dried ears of corn! He loved to watch those squirrels while he was drinking his coffee.

Is he still pretty active or is he more confined to his home? My MIL is elderly and cannot get out easily to shop. Something we did for her was to make up a package of small gifts she can give others(lip balm, hand cream, playing cards, candies, etc) and wrapping supplies (tape, small gift bags, cards.)

If your father has young grandkids you could make him a bucket of fun--colorful bucket filled with sunscreen, squirt guns, couple bottles of beer(or soda) and a can of peanuts.

If you're really desparate, get him a betta fish. They are the most charming little things. My DH got one a few years ago and that fish would swim around and do a little dance every time he came near. That fish would even take small grains of food out of his fingers!

Forgot to add what we are getting him for Father's Day...

My sis bought a shadow box and we put in his old fishing lures for display. They are collectors items that he hangs onto.

if he drinks coffee, a keurig machine. then you can get him coffees for other holidays.

For Christmas we just renew his subscription to National Geographic. He has everything he needs and if he wants something, he just goes out and gets it. Father's Day is generally just a card and a phone call. He would rather have our time.

Update- so I ended up getting a George Forman grill for him. (He is driving me crazy with the phone calls about how long to cook X in the oven) And the netflix(it was also his birthday this week.)

Oh and yes he's getting our time too! Dinner over here. As always. I did remind my sister and brother that he's their Dad as well.-oh well. I don't mind that - we have to eat anyway what's one more person. It'll be steak and potatoes since that's both his and DH's favorite!

Have to think of dessert.
