**Help ASAP** WTC Site Directions From Saint Patrick's Cathedral

First of all, (not flaming here,) it's no longer called ground Zero. That was when there was rubble & death & destruction all around. To keep referring to it that way, keeps reiterating that the terrorists have won. I've been to a few rededication ceremonies & it is now being called "The World Trade Center Site" as they are looking forward to, & made steps toward moving forward & rebuilding.

Secondly, how are mom and sister planning on getting down there? Driving? Subway, Taxi? Bus? (not recommended.)

The addresses you have for both St. Pat's & the WTC are inncorrect. St. Pat's is at 50th St & Fifth Ave. (Madison Ave, may be the back side of it, but the street runs UPtown. They will need to know this if they are catching a bus or taxi.) Fifth

The WTC is below Chambers St. on the west side. Can't think of the actual name off-hand as I just kind of know how to get there. Let me think a moment.

sorry for calling it ground zero, i didnt know...and they are taking a bus with 40 other people from our town but will be taking a taxi to get from place to place when needed. Any other info will be appreciated..thanks so far

It's at Church St. & WTC Plaza.

The best way to get there is by subway. Have Mom & Sis walk WEST on 50th St. They will pass by the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. :cool1:

At Ave of the Americas, otherwise known as 6th Ave, CROSS the street & take the DOWNTOWN B, D, F, or V train at 50th ST, to WEST 4th St. STOP.

Have them get off & transfer onto the A or E train DOWNTOWN to Chamber St/ WTC.

Then it's a short 2 blocks south. :flower:

If they hail a taxi, they just have to tell the driver World trade Center. He'll know how to get there. :)

I don't recommend the bus because it will take an hour to get down there at this time of year. I'm assuming they will want to do other stuff beside sit on a darn bus. :)

I know. That's why I said I wasn't flaming you. :) I think the media still like to call it that because it's more dramatic.

Here is a subway map to help them get their bearings.
http://www.nycsubway.org/maps/route/

Underneath the big green square (Central Park) is a dark orange line for the B,D,F,V, Trains at 47-50 St. Rockefeller Ctr.

Follow it down till it meets with the blue line, E train at W. 4th St. to WTC. The E train line ENDS right at the WTC.

There is a little box with a US flag to the far left, showing the whereabouts of the WTC.

If they do decide to take the subway, instead of walking up stairs towards the exits, have them follow the signs to the NJ PATH TRAINS (But don't get on.)

In between the subway exit (which is still below ground) & the entrance of the Path train, there is a wide, fenced off corridor that runs parallel to the WTC. They will know it when they see it.

It is actually a better viewing area (IMO) than the Official Viewing Area. Much less crowded, :crowded: less touristy, more space to spread out & have a private moment of silence, etc. Plus it is below ground so they will actually be at the "Ground Zero" level.

Otherwise, tell them to have a great time in the city, the holiday decorations are up in the rest of the city. If either of them works in a corporate environment, "Century 21" store is the best for deeply discounted office designer wear. It is just on the other side of the street from the WTC, on Church St. (I think.) :)

To go by subway without changing trains do this.....

From the front of St. Pats, turn right on to Fifth Ave. Walk up 3 blocks to 53rd St. Turn left at Brooks brothers and just a bit off the corner is a subway station. At that station you will find Orange "F" and blue "E" trains. If you take the "E" train it ends at the WTC site.
