My son left his spelling book at school and I have tried all 10 people in his class and can't find anyone.

The name of the book is Vocabulary 5 and its list 30 on literature....I believe it is the Abeka book.

Is there a chance that anyone out there has this book at home and can list these words for me??

I know its a long shot but one worth taking!

You may want to search the Abeka sight if they have one. ANother long shot, though.

Beauty, go to a homeschool site and ask there, I am sure there are lots of Abeka users. Just type in homeschool on any search engine and you will get lots of sites. Go to the message boards and ask..... I'll be you have your answer before you know it!

Good luck!!

sorry beth, kelsea doesn't use that one.

good luck

we don't use spelling/vocabulary books in our school. my 5thgrader doesn't even do spelling words per se this year, she gets vocabulary exercizes from the literature they're reading.

I don't think using spelling/vocabulary books and reading literature are mutually exclusive. I'm willing to bet that Beauty's schools in the south have discovered literature too, just like they have on Long Island! :smooth: But I'm sure Beauty appreciates your helpful response.

Sorry I couldn't help you Beth! 4th, 7th and 9th graders here...

Hummm Literature, huh? Whats that? OHHHH ya mean readin? Yeah we read....I think they read the tractor pull news last week....or was it the new double wide brochure......heck I can't keep up but we have tons on our readin list down hea....yall might try em....well if you can find em....

1. Turnip Green receipes for 2003
2. Corn Bread Times
3. John Deere's new catalog
4. Why it is NOT okay to marry your sibling

Really good readin material!

LOL Beauty

Sorry, I can't help you.

LOL, Beauty, we got that same readin list here in TN. Woohoo!:p

Ooo! Beth - Can I borrow that John Deere catalog when y'all are done with it? Nothing runs like a Deere ......

:)

The middle school I work at, they don't do spelling lists either.

As for 5th grade (some schools in the district that is middle school, some it is elementary).. I don't have one.. but I know that they don't use that curriculum for spelling.

It is very common for teachers/districts to make up their spellings lists up from the reading they do in class. I don't see how saying that implies that classes that use spelling books don't read? It's just two different methods for teaching spelling.

I must have missed something.:(

I just pawed through DS's backpack....(he's outside)....but no help from our corner of the aslyum!!! He's not too consistent in bringing books home either.

Sorry just checked it was from Loyola! Hope everything works out. What I do is write a note to the teacher telling them what avenues I have exhausted trying to correct the problem.

Good Luck!

Hi,

thought I would update and say we got them from a friend who finally got home last night! Don't know how he did on the test yet but hopefully pretty well.

Thanks everyone!

The road to independence is to make your son take the consequences for forgetting his spelling or have him call his friends. I've given up on baling my kid's out of their homework woes this year, I've discovered that they are much better about remembering now that they know I won't jump in the car to run back to school or over to their friend's houses.
