My youngest child(daughter) has just decided that what she wants for HS graduation is one last trip to WDW before college. If we go before July 24th we have APs we can use. Does anyone have any idea about availability of a studio at any of the resorts for July 21-24th? Of course it is a weekend and I can't call MS til Tues. And it will be crazy trying to get through on Tues after a long weekend and I am supposed to be administering a test at 9:00 on Tues. am. Also, I found cheap airfare but sale ends on Wed. Anyone know if we have a chance of pulling this off?

You might get one just as long as you don't care where it is. With this latest code red for those 7 terrorists at the airports you could end up with many choices. My daughter already changed her plans to fly somewhere this summer with the code red. If they keep it up you may have quite a choise of where to stay at DVC. This is a very strange code red however.

Debby, FYI: I was calling daily to get a room and until Friday there was nothing. A nice woman at MS told me (before I got my room and still thought I'd be calling daily) that when they are closed, you can call the DVC resort DIRECTLY and ask THEM about availability. You might try this so you don't stress until Tuesday! Also, I called about two weeks ago and got a VWL studio for the week after your dates... Now I will cancel it as we are traveling TOMORROW! :)

We're on code red? According to the government site, it's still yellow.

planned a trip only six weeks in advance for mid June. The situation was that *many* of the resorts had 1 bedrooms available, but none of them but OKW had studios available. If you're most concerned with usage of points and definitely want a studio, you *should* be able to get in to OKW since it's so big. Definitely put yourself on the waitlist if no studios are available or if the resort that you want is not available.

I got a 1 bdrm @ okw roughly 2 months out and then waitlisted for BWV and got that about 4 weeks before we left.

It can happen because we were there during Spring Break, so it's a possibility!

Good Luck (sounds like a fun trip)!
Lisa

Where do you find out that the airport is on code red?

I would try right away Tuesday morning and see what is available. Are you at all flexible with the date? In other words, could you go earlier?

Tell them you're not fussy about where you stay and see what Happes. Last year we got a 1BR at OKW about 5 weeks out, at the end of July.

Our experience is you will get lucky. We were able to secure a GV at OKW a month ago for June 24 on. We have friends going with us and were able to add a 1 br at BWV (about a week ago - no studios available at either BWV, BCV, or OKW) however, we were able to secure a studio at SSR - no problem. Worth looking into, I'd say. :D

What does airport code red mean for travelers? I hadn't heard that.

The security is still at Yellow. Here's some info to help get the story straight:

Holiday Airline Travelers Urged To Call Ahead, Be Alert

POSTED: 8:54 am EDT May 28, 2004

WASHINGTON -- The head of the Federal Aviation Administration says the government will be watching security closely during the peak holiday travel periods, but there are things the flying public can do, too.

FAA administrator Marion Blakey says busier airports in Miami, New York and New Jersey have been given more security screeners, as the government reallocates those workers where they're most needed.

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show, Blakey said this week's warning about possible attacks isn't specific enough to raise the overall threat level above yellow. Still, she says photos of seven suspected terrorists "are everywhere."

Airport Delays

Later, on ABC's "Good Morning America," Blakey said the flying public should be observant at airports and on airplanes. For example, people can keep an eye out for unattended luggage or suspicious passengers.

etc., etc., etc.,

Believe me, I know. My dh and kids are flying back home next week - believe me, I know.... :(
