OK, I am tired of shopping and looking......just tell me a good camera to get, What cameras do you guys out there have that you just love and that work great filming fireworks?????? I am looking for good cameras under $300.00 Thanks guys,
Kristy

I ahve a canon i got last xmas. I just love it!!! Cant say enough good things about it. It has 8 different scene settings, and one is specail for fireworks!!! I used it for fireworks on this 4 of jult and it took awesome picts. Just my 2 cents hopes this helps ya .I'm sure someone else will be more noligable on cameras with all those technical terms and such.

Go with a brand name in your price range and u will be fine. Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Sony, to name a few, get the picture? Each company have their little quirks but in the end, you will get pics you like. This is not brain surgery, no need to stress, the idea is to get memories. All cameras come with software so if your exposure is off a bit or it needs to be cropped or whatever, you can do it after the fact. One thing, buy the biggest film card you can afford. When it comes to film cards, bigger is better, trust me.

I just bought an HP Photosmart that I love. It's very basic (not a lot of bells and whistles), and I paid $199 plus tax for it. Personally, I love HP products, so that's why I bought this camera.

Have you read up on digital cameras on www.dpreview.com ? I read reviews obsessively,LOL....anyhow, I personally have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20....I LOVE it! It has a huge zoom on it and is a great versatile vacation camera. It does run around $450 now though I'm pretty sure. There is a model that is slightly smaller but has the same big zoom, it's the FZ5 it is slightly cheaper, but lacks a hotshoe for external flash.

I also own a Canon A20 and it was great till my kids dropped it. I've been looking at the Canon A520 to replace it and that one goes for around $300. Lacks the zoom that my fluzi has but DH likes to have a smaller camera for his business trips and this one looks perfect for him.

Another vote for Canon! I have the Canon PowerShot A40. We got it at Wal-Mart. It was, I believe, in the low $200's - maybe high $100's - sheesh, I don't remember. It was very reasonable for all the features it comes with. I use it for eBay (I've gotten lots of compliments on my ad photos) and it's gone with us to Disney twice. I love it. It even takes small snippets of video. We have a mini DV camera, but prefer the digital camera for our Disney trips. I am enjoying myself too much to sit there with a video camera strapped to my hand!

Good luck to you :)

I also have the Panasonic FZ20 and have had good results with it. The FZ5 is smaller and is getting very good reviews. The price is a little more than what you are looking to spend, but you might find a great sale somewhere.

We have the Canon powershot A85,and LOVE it. Great, easy to use camera. We use rechargable batteries and never had a problem with it. We even used Duracell batteries when we were in CUBA for a week, and the batteries lasted us all week, without dying! :teeth:

I love my Sony Cybershot P100. The bottom line is that it takes good pictures. Most in your price range will, so really look for one that feels good in your hands.

As for fireworks, learn the settings on your camera and then either use a tripod or monopod or find a railing or something you can rest the camera on. I think most pictures that turn out badly are due to camera shake. If the image is sharp, you can always crop to improve the framing, etc....

Could probably get a Canon PowerShot S1 IS for under $300, now that the S2 IS is out. It got great reviews, and gives you a big 12x zoom with image stabilization.

Panny FZ5 would be another good option, but it is probably a little over your $300 mark.

I think I would die without my Kodak 6440!! Unfortunately, it is now discontinued, but I will keep it as long as it lasts!! My pics turned out fabulous and didn't need "fixin", whereas my sister bought an Olympus 565 and it took me months (there were a lot of pics) to fix them.

I would also suggest dpreview and go to your local Best Buy and play! Find what is comfortable to you and your hands...ask questions...find out which kind of memory cards they use (some, like Sony and Olympus have brand specific cards and they are a bit more expensive than a SD card)...find out what kind of batteries they use and expected battery life. If you plan to take firework shots, get a tripod too! I spent months researching and playing and it definitely paid off for me!

I just recently replaced my Kodak Easy Share DX3900 (left in in rental car on last trip in Jan. Never was found-still mourning the 200+ pixs in the camera) with Kodak Easy Share DX7590. I absolutely love it! My old dig. cam had 3 MP and the new one has 5. The clarity from the 7590 is great. I took some pix of my daughter princess: playing in the sprinklers using the 'sports' setting and the camera froze the water spray.

It cost about $360 at Sam's Club including dock kit. 10x optical zoom, 3 x digital, total 30X zoom. I was planning on using this as a transitional camera until I decided to bite the bullet and buy a digital SLR. Now I've decided not to buy a dig. SLR. I can't imagine that I'll be much happier with a more expensive camera. The only draw back is not being able to change lenses, but honestly, I can't remember the last time I hanged lenses on my SLR. Also the 7590 is larger than most pocket digitals but I'm used to carrying a camera on my shoulders anyway.

I'll still use my SLR but more and more I'm using my dig. (And I was a SLR snob, by the way.) Hope this helps.
