We are thinking of buying an annual pass for DisneyWorld.
We live in Ohio so obviously we cannot get there every weekend. However we are planning maybe 2 trips during the year.
How can we find out the savings offered on hotels during July and December to pass holders?

Thanks alot

...patiently until the codes come out. You might get some idea by comparing the "season" you plan on traveling with recent AP rates. www.mousesavers.com might also be helpful. Good luck!

...and we continue to patiently  wait for summer codes!

July is considered Regular season unless you stay at a Deluxe. After July 5th Deluxe drops to value. Dec is value season unless you are going Christmas week, then that is Holiday season & the most expensive. During Value you can get the values/moderate resorts for approx $49/79. During Regular it is around $59/$89.... the Deluxe resorts all vary in price...from a low of $119 for AKL/WL during value season & go up form there.....

If you are considering two trips how many days total will you be there? If you are going to go to the parks more than 11 days between those two trips then the AP's are worth it by themselves, even without the room discount.

The break even point has always been 8 days - does it work out differently now with the new MYW tickets?

AP's offer alot more than just room discounts. There are discounts on some other things also (dining, merchandise at World of Disney) but I think the greatest benefit is the flexibility of the passes......................we've gone to the MK bakery for breakfast or just gone to EPCOT in the evening for Illuminations after spending a day at the pool. We love having our AP's! :cool1:

Definitely:

A 7-day Magic Your Way Park Hopping Ticket No Plus Options Expires 14 Days After First Use ticket is $234, with tax. ( I am still not sure what is up with the 10-day tickets.) Cost per day is $234/7 = $33.43 per day.

You would need to purchase more than one ticket to get more than 7 days.

Currently, an AP is $403.64.

AP cost $403.64 / $33.43 cost per day = 12 days.

So you would need to go 12 days or more to make an AP worthwhile.

Discounts are not a guarantee. I would never buy a pass just for that reason. If you are going to be able to come twice in the same calendar year and use the ticket enough to warrant the cost of the ticket I would do it. Or wait and see if discounts are even offered for your dates.

OK, so I looked stuff up on Deb's AllEarsNet.com and they've got a really nifty ticket price chart there, which is wherre the link will take you.

Now the OP is thinking of getting 2 trips in during the calendar year, so they would need to buy the "No Expiration" feature on the days. So, this puts us at the 10 day MYW ticket with park-hopping and no expiration: advance purchase price incl tax comes to $353.58.

But if the OP is planning more than 10 park days, then we're looking at two MYW ticket purchases, where you could skip the "No Expiration" feature. Suppose we are looking for two 6 day passes with park hopping expire w/in 14 days, at advance purchase price of $236.43 apiece; multiply that by 2 and we're well beyond the $403.64 AP price.

So I'd put the breakeven at anything over 10 days, since the 10 day MYW ticket (no expiration) is such a great deal: a mere $10 more than the 7 day ticket. If you're doing 10 days or fewer, the the MYW with no expiration option is best.

This new system really is rewarding longer stays, in a big way. Just look how the differences get smaller as the length of ticket gets longer. These are all pre-tax for the base ticket (no extras):
Day 1: $59.75
Day 2: $59.25
Day 3: $52.00
Day 4: $14.00
Day 5: $8.00
Day 6: $3.00
Day 7: $3.00
Then Days 8-10 are just $10 more, total.
So the difference between a 5 day ticket and a 10 day ticket is $16 total. Good for them, keep folks in the parks more, and keep them spending money on-site. It warms the cockles of my Disney-shareholding heart. pirate:

Of course, we DVC members now get a $100 discount on APs, so our breakeven is 7 days, plus we already have our lodging paid for. Sadly we bought our passes before the discount came into effect, but at least we'll be able to upgrade with the discount to a PAP. Plus, we're getting 20 park days out of them, and maybe even a discount or two.

pumpkinboy,

Your correct about the new system rewarding those people who stay longer. Take a look at the 5 day MYW w/hopper vs the 10 day MYW w/hopper. The 5 day is $235.37 and the 10 day is $247.08. So the difference between the 5 day and 10 day is $11.71 For $11.71 who wouldn't stay at WDW longer.
