Can someone please tell me if this is true? I was just contacted by Disney that I need to switch rooms because of the construction. OK, I knew this was coming and I advised that I would like to stay. The cast member advised me that all rooms will be closed and only the restaurants will be open?:confused :confused

I told her that was ridiculous and she insisted that I need to make reservations. I really want to stay at AKL has any one been successful in keeping their room. we are going Aug 29-sept 4 TIA

Disney doesn't ask you to change unless they are expecting big problems.

some people have even gotten Polyn.

There has been so much conflicting information, I don't think anyone knows what is going on anymore.
I do know for a fact that if you want to stay at AKL they will not make you move.
The restaurants will not be closed(well, that was the consensus last week).
If you really have your heart set on AKL then stay but be prepared for possible noise from the construction.
Could you possibly think of another resort you might want to stay at? There are so many wonderful resorts that you could go to. I will be going in September and staying at AKL(well, maybe),so I really do know how you feel. You want a great vacation at a resort you have planned on for a long time only to have the rug pulled out from under you.
This is definitely a time when you have to make lemonade out of lemons.
Whatever you decide will you post your decision and explain why you made your particular decision. I might need help with my decision if I get the dreaded call.

We are booked at AKL (Savannah View w/Bunk Beds) from 8/4 to 8/11 and have not been contacted. It's very sad that there's so much conflicting information out there.

If you want to stay... when you talk with them again, tell them that you know that people are in fact staying at AKL during the construction time, and that you do not wish to be moved. That you are aware of the potential for noise or disruption and are willing to stay despite that. Ask for a supervisor if the CM is insistant that you want to move. That's what I'd do.

I'm sorry that you're going through this! With all the conflicting information given to guests, I have concluded that it simply isn't true that EVERY room will be closed, but I guess that it is possible that all rooms in your category will be closed. Maybe that's what they mean by "all rooms will be closed" :confused3

My advice is to check out the other recent threads on this board on the topic to learn what the various CMs have told various people.

OK here is my update..I called and asked very nicely if we could stay. I was told no everyone is being moved. OK than can I split my stay 2 nites at AKL and the rest at poly or boardwalk inn. I also hinted around about OKW. she put me on hold for 10 mins, when she came back she said that we could stay asper manager:banana:

OK I as real happy so I called back to verify the info and it was all there. but the cast member started to talk about the poly and how great it was and got me to thinking:idea:  so I called back to find out what room I would be offered and they offered a gardenview..I was this close to changing when she said that I spoke to her a week ago and she knew how much I wanted to stay at AKL and that we talked about OKW she asked if I wanted to still stay there. I said yes but was told it could not be one of my choices. She took my number and asked if she could call me back. When she called me back she gave us a 2 bedroom villa at OKW.

So we will be staying at OKW Aug 29-sept 4

Congratulations on landing a 2 bedroom villa at OKW; that is an awesome upgrade. Have a wonderful time. :)

WOW What an upgrade!! I wonder if my family would have still wanted to stay at AKL if we had been contacted and gotten an offer like that. I'm sure you'll have a magical stay!!

Congrats!:woohoo:
We also got the call and will be at the Poly. We have a split stay and these were our last 2 nights. Nice way to end the trip I hope!

I posted this in the other thread...

Was just over on the passporters board and apparently a couple just got back from AKL......

Hi All!
We just got back from AKL, so I thought I would pop in here and let you know our thoughts.

First, we were very happy with our room. We stayed in room 4513 on the Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha Rock. We saw lots of animals; kudu, giraffe, ankole cattle, blesbok, bongo and more. None of them seemed concerned or bothered by the consruction.

Secondly, there are still people checking in to the resort. It seemed well attended, especially on the concierge level, where we were lucky enough to stay this time. We were told that the construction is ahead of schedule.

As far as hearing any contruction noise, I am very happy to report that we heard nothing in our room. There was some noise that could be heard in the lobby area. Sometimes, if we were out on the balcony, we could hear a saw in the distance. That was it. It never disturbed our naps, our enjoyment of the resort or the animals.

And we bought DVC at AKLV, so it is now our home resort!

Here are a few pictures from our balcony...
As you can see, the animals came quite close!

So it looks like people are still being allowed to stay.....

Now that's GREAT news!! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Yes, we were able to stay. It was a big hassle to get them to agree 9/1-9/9 (we had a deluxe room booked which they no longer had period). I was assured that those that stay will have a very nice stay. That is what I have been hearing by way of posts from returning guests. I think they cannot give everyone they booked a "good stay" due to the construction views, noise, etc...so they are trying to switch as many people as needed to make sure the ones who remain have a good stay. I heard that too (that all rooms would be closed) when they first called me...but upon insisting the tune changed and I was told that all rooms IMPACTED by construction would be closed. GOOD LUCK and no matter what, I hope you enjoy your Disney vacation!!:wizard:

Glad you got a great upgrade. We are booked at AKL for 8/26 - 9/2 bunk bed pool view, and happily still haven't been called. We don't want to move. Since people are being called that are checking in after us, I am hoping that means we are safe. They would be calling my TA though, no me directly. I will have my fingers crossed until I am in my room!!!
