Hi y'all,

Looking for some advice... we have our pillowcase signed, safe and sound at home... now I am afraid to let Lauren use it!! ACCK!!
Afraid as I am worried something will happen to the signatures!!!
The pillowcase was prewashed, and the signatures are done with Sharpies brand markers.... at least that is what I provided for them to sign with.

Is there any special care or attention that I should give the pillowcase before I wash it the first time?
Here it is!

That's an awesome pillow case! Did you have the pillow case on a hard surface for them to sign? Looking forward to seing what advice you get in regards to wash and care.

Thanks Catira!:goodvibes
As to answering your question...I have no idea as to where the CM sign the cases and mats, as they do it all behind the scenes on board, and I am told it is also in their "spare time".

That is a great pillowcase! We had some pillowcases with character signatures that were given to us as a gift. We used them and washed them and the signatures washed off. I know it was sharpies that were used. Maybe it was regular sharpies that were used and not laundry sharpies. Anyway, I wouldn't was them unless you know it was laundry sharpies that were used on your pillowcases!

Hi Kari!
Thanks for the heads up... I just bought regular old sharpies from Walmart... so now I am REALLY hesitant to wash them. *SIGH* I don't know what to do:confused3
Does anyone else have any experience with this? Was Kari just such a fabulous laundress that she got all the marker out? ;)

Is there perhaps some kind of pretreatment I could do to "set" the marker??

TIA

Wanda

Hi
When My sister was little My Mom Had the charecters sign a pillowcase and then she stitchen over it with embroidery thread in the same color as the pen.
She did do something to the thread though to sop it from bleading on to the fabric when she washed it. I don't know what it was though. So Maybe stitch (or have some one stitch ) over the signatures with thread.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion Lisa,:thumbsup2
I am not that talented to stitch over something and to have it professionally done I am sure would cost a mint...it was great of you to post your suggestion though!

Another thought
You made that one with transfers right? If you have the same designs saved that you put in the corners and around the middle do those again on another pillowsase. There are some designers who have the autographs as transfers just make a copy of the pillow case withe the transfer autographs that she can sleep on and then frame the original.
Make sense?:upsidedow

I have not done this so take it as you wish. I think if you first put it in the dryer to set the marker in and then wash it you should be fine. Again I haven't done it but I think that would work.

Vinegar is supposed to "set" colors. I put some in all of my loads. They don't come out smelling bad, I promise! I put about 3/4 cup in every load.

My daughter got into a red Sharpie (regular) and marked on a white shirt. After MANY washings with vinegar, borax and Gain in hot water (and letting clorox sit on it for a long time), it has started to fade. I don't think you are in any danger of the names disappearing on the first washing if they used your sharpies.

I would check the Sharpie website and see if they have suggestions or comments about how to remove Sharpie from clothes and avoid those. Otherwise, I would let her use it and handwash it. It is really adorable.
