I went to have my nails done Friday night. Now my nails were long but DH bought me a new ring for our 10 year anniversary so I wanted to show it off properly.

So Friday night I go to the nail salon and get a full set of acrylics done, they take the fake nails and glue it to the tips of my nails after cutting them down then go over them with the liquid and powder--No problem been having them done like this for over 10 years.

Saturday I went to pick up my recycling bin and the nail on my pointer finger AND my middle finger break off--the whole top is now half long nail, half gone down to my real nail so I go back to the salon and have them repaired for which I was charged $10

Now today(Sunday) I was just loading my dishwasher and went to squirt the liquid into the cup when my thumbnail snapped!!

Seriously!!!!!! I am so PO'd!! In over 10 years of having my nails done I have never broken a nail and this time around I have broken 3 in less than 48 hours!!

My understanding was/is these things are hard to break and that it takes a lot to break them and I've never had this problem before!

Now I have to go back to the salon tomorrow to have it fixed and I bet they're going to want more money.

Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? What should I say?

And can I just add how badly it hurts!! I am not looking forward to anymore of these things breaking!!

Yeah-it's weird that they broke off. I always say my finger'll come off before that darn nail will. Have you seen the "nail salon" on youtube? :rotfl2:

That does sound weird. I have had mine done and it takes a lot to break them off like that. Is the coating of acrylic too thin? Did they glue the tips too close to the tip? Something has to be off somewhere.

I've managed to break one, but it was from repeatedly throwing a 14 lb bowling ball.

I don't think it's right for them to charge you to repair it.

Right! I have spent hours getting the nails off--I figure why bother paying someone to do it when I can do the same thing at home in my underwear while watching tv!!

:confused3

I have no clue! This is the first time I have ever had one break (well 3) and I am not happy at all!
Now I'm wishing I had just left my nails alone-they were long so I didn't need them cut off and replaced--I should've just had them painted!

I break mine all the time. My real nails "curl" and that makes the acrylic nail "pop" off. Because of this I don't get tips like you've described. My nail tech building the whole nail with power and liquid. And when I break a nail and have it fixed my tech never charges for a repair - even though its really my fault.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: where's the tag fairy???

When I was getting acrylic or gels on my nails they would come off all the time. Something in my body chemistry just doesn't like those things even though I was getting them done for years before and never had a problem. A few different girls asked me if I was pregnant at first when they started popping off :rotfl: I guess when you are preggers your body chemistry changes and nails can do weird things :confused3

Different places also use different formulas, maybe your body just doesn't like that particular brand?

I was told things like lotions and tanning lotions break them down and they will break or fall off more easily if you use a lot of lotion. I am a lotion junkie and was careful to keep it away from the nails as much as possible, but in the summer between sunscreen and swimming I had problems. Now I just can't be bothered wasting the time to get them done or keep up with them

The most likely cause is that your technician had a bad batch of arcyrlic. I have had acrylics off and on for years-and while the rarely break it does happen-and at the oddest times-but to loose three that close together usually means that the acrylic is not setting correctly-usually caused by getting them wet too soon or bad acrylic.

I had one break off, and it just about took my entire real nail off, too. When they have been on for a long time and I haven't been able to have them filled, I have had them "pop" off, but breaking..those things are like rock, my real nail gives first..ow......

I have had sunblock disintegrate nail polish, so I don't wear any polish on my acrylic in the summertime, just have them buffed. No problem with it affecting the acrylic, just the polish.

See that's what I'm thinking.
I don't get them done constantly because I'm not a biter and my own nails grow pretty good so it's usually done for special occasions.
I haven't really done anything with water(when I was loading the dishwasher I wore gloves) and I rarely use lotion and I'm so white I border on albino so no worries about tanning lotions.

Once I got over the pain I couldn't believe that they had broken based on what I was doing---as I said I've never had one break before,so this is all new too me.

I left a message at the salon saying who I was and what had happened along with the fact I had already been back once to have them fixed and that I'd like to come in tomorrow so we'll see what they say when they call back.
