Can anyone shed any light please? We have booked the Marriott Vacation club for our upcoming trip (a 2 bd townhouse) as I wanted kitchen facilities as I'm pretty sure our DD2 will be starting on solid food/weaning around that time (she's 16 weeks now and doing OK but by the time we go she'll be 20 weeks and she's a big girl - even my Health Visitor has said she'll probably need weaning before the recommended 6 months these days). I wanted a microwave for sterilising/heating food and silly things like knives/forks to mash banana etc and stuff she can eat mashed. Also wanted a fridge to keep opened bits in etc. The situation is exasperated by the fact that it appears that she may be dairy intolerant (like my DD1) and as a result I can't afford to just give her jars or anything just in case. Ideally at home I'll make all my own purees of 'first foods' but going away I was looking at veg/fruit pots and some organix veg meals without anything added.

However, I'm starting to think that with a 3.5 year old in tow as well that we may be better off staying on site. Mainly because it's so near so that if I do need to pop back to our room with DD2 (or 1) it's not a car trip etc. Also means if I want to get DD2 ready for bed, DH can stay in the park with DD1 and I can go meet them for maybe a meal in the Village once the park closes (it will be around 7 pm when we are there). There are other reasons - like the possibility of a drink in the hotel bar once the kids have gone to sleep (Mum & Dad are going too so they would watch the kids for an hour for us).

Sorry this is sooo long!!! :scared1:

Anyway, we want to buy APs so I really would only want RO accom but I can't seem to get a quote on Expedia for the time we want to go and I've read that it's difficult to get RO accom via Disney without an AP already. I don't want to pay for park tickets in a package and then buy an AP.

I read somewhere that there is a microwave in the hotels for guest use - is this 24/7? Also, is is easy to use cold water sterilising tabs for say bowls and spoons etc - I've never used them as I'm breastfeeding and did with DD1 too.

Do you think Disney would arrange for a microwave to be put in our room if we asked? Probably not I guess.

In addition, I don't think we can afford the DLH this trip but are looking at the New York, but then the reviews of SL make it look great and it's not as expensive... Which one is the nearest to the parks (apart from DLH) and how far are they to walk please? Is it true that the shuttle buses tend to be a bit of a scrum with no queue? Don't fancy that with a pushchair, baby, toddler in tow so would be looking to walk to the hotel most of the time.

Finally, (if you've read this far you deserve a big medal!) supposing we did find the cash to stay at DLH, is it worth the extra with babies/kids?

Again, sorry it's so long but I don't want to make a mistake and potentially spoil the holiday....

The nearest one to the park apart from DLH is New York but SL is only about another 5 minutes away.

Thanks - how long does it take to walk to the HNY (with a pushchair say)?

I can't help with the microwave question but it would be worth phoning Disney to see if they can help you.
Then you can compare the space of the Marriott versus the proximity of a Disney hotel :)

Thanks Reid - I've been putting off phoning them but think I need to! My head is suitably 'done in' thinking about it (as they say 'up north') :rotfl:

Hmmmm, with kids, we far prefer the Marriott Vacation Club as long as you have a car. Washing machine and dryer (can travel light), can take snacks, put on a DVD for the kids when getting ready, some quiet time. Plus the villas are about 8 times the size of the Disney hotel rooms.

No need for a microwave though if staying in a DLP hotel. They have bottle warmers, and for sterilising bottles, you can buy bags of cold water sterilisers that work well.

Personally I was sad we had to stay in the HNY because Marriott was fully booked up last week.

I'm another one in favour of Marriott. It really is a home from home and you could cook up your own baby food. There is a freezer too. Also they have a bar on site if you wanted to get away for an hour & restaurants in the nearby village (about 10 mins walk from the entrance to Marriott). But with all the extra space you can enjoy a bottle of wine from the supermarket while watching a DVD while the kids are asleep upstairs instead of having to stay quiet (or sit in the ensuite) because you are all in the one room. Your oldest daughter would enjoy their pool, playgrounds & indoor playroom.

Thanks Karen - it's looking like DD2 will be on solids by then so I think it will be the Marriott after all!
