Hi Blondie helped me by letting me know about construction at DC on I-95. She suggested I take 301 to circumvent the problems. Well I need some info on how to take 301 such as where to get on and off. Also anybody else have an alternate route. I was told maybe take I-95 to 17 in N.C. then 13 through the Cheasapeake Bay Tunnel into Delware. How far is that out of the way and is this a good option? Thanks so much. I will be traveling on a Wed. at night from Dayatona Beach Florida. We would like to miss most of the traffic nightmares.

Bumping I need lots of help. I have to get around DC and Baltimore next week. I am so not sure how to do this. I know some of you drive to Disney so please help the driving challenged southern have a great trip. :moped:

I'm not sure what you're trying to do but, dh says he takes 495 bypass around DC. I remember visiting him when he was working in Md and 13 thru Del was 1 or 2 lanes each way, thru small towns with traffic lights and low speed limits.

Thanks I am just looking for the easiest but fastest way to Philly. We haven't traveled north of South Carolina when we were driving so I was unsure of a different route. Any and all suggestions will be helpful. :cool1:

I'm not sure what the construction on I95 is currently. We live about an hour north of Philly in the Lehigh Valley, PA. We drove to Disney and back in June of this year. We took 95 all the way down and back. 13 is way out of your way. The Chesapeake bay tunnel would be about 90 miles out of your way. We travel from PA to Chesapeake (my parents live there) alot. It is about an hour and a half (90 miles) longer taking 13. Your quickest way is 95 all the way. We are a family of four (2 children ages 10 & 2) and it took us 19 hrs down and 18 hrs coming home. We basically drove straight through. We stopped for gas and bathroom breaks and a brief hour nap on the way down in a rest area because we were too tired to drive.

I know there is work being down on the bridge from Alexandria VA to Maryland (?) on the SE edge of DC on the outer loop of 495 - not that means anything to you.

Taking 13 would take you all the way out to the coast.

I think you pick up 301 after you go round Washington DC.

Timing is EVERY thing when going around DC. 11 am is a good time.

Thanks I am gathering such great info. I will post which route and why we took it when we get home. In the meantime keep the stuff coming. Thanks again so very much.

Can't help with your question but I can bump this back to page one for you :)

Here is a map of the area. It is not particularly fun to drive around here. LOL I would just take the inner loop of 495 and definitely time the traffic. Traffic from Fredericksburg north can be bad. Things start getting confusing around the Springfield mixing bowl where 4 roads converge. They have been doing construction on this part for years. :confused3 It helps by following signs to Tysons Corner. HTH

ETA: The whole inner/outer loop can be confusing. Basically, the inner loop travels clockwise, while the outer loop travels counter clockwise. If you are travelling back to 95 it would not really matter which direction you go. I only travel the inner loop from VA because we live off of 270 in MD. We travel a lot between Daytona and here and it is about a 17 hr. drive.
