I am secretly planning a getaway for myself. This is my first time to the World. I plan on flying in on Friday April 16th. My plane does not arrive until 6pm. How long does it take to get to POP from the airport using the DME. Should I plan on just a quick service meal at the hotel or a sit down meal elsewhere (maybe downtown disney)?

any suggestions, tips, or links will be greatly appreciated

I'm doing a solo trip this week going to Pop as well. I've been told that it can take anywhere between 45 minutes and 2 hours from the time you get to the DME desk until you're at Pop. So I'm renting a car instead (got one for $22/day with unlimited miles).

You might want to grab a bite at the Earport before you take ME. We have never had a bad experience taking ME. I sure some people have. We like the food court at Pop. The TV diners are good.

After 10 trips and only one time NOT using DME, I have never had much of a wait. As far as eating, the quick service at Pop is tasty and most of the counters will be open till 10:00 p.m. There is something available till, I believe, midnight at Pop. Downtown Disney is available for a bite till much later. There is Fultons Crab House, Portobello, T-Rex, Rainforest Cafe, Bongos, Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood and others that I cannot remember off the top of my head. . .so really it depends on what you want. . .

I enjoyed using the DME. I never had to wait long and since I don't know the area, I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I think it's 20 miles from the airport to WDW and Florida is famous for its toll roads. I didn't want to have to worry about unfamiliar roads. It's also not a straight shot from the resorts to the parks. Lots of interchanges.

Where to eat... Depends on whether you are a morning person or night person and also your plans for the next morning.

Your plane gets in at 6:00 PM. By the time you get to the resort and checked in, it will probably be after 8:00 PM. I vote for a quick bite to eat at the resort (remember to buy your refillable mug), a tour of its facilities, refill your mug, get settled in the room and review the local WDW channel on TV, then hit the sack so you can be at Magic Kingdom Rope Drop next morning. MK has the best opening show so be there at least 15 minutes prior to opening. You are going to have a GREAT! time.

If you are a night person and want to eat someplace other than the resort, try Earl of Sandwich at DownTown Disney. Great place for a solo traveler.
