Newbie here (well, I went to WDW when I was 6, lol) and we are planning a trip for 2022 - first trip for our family of 4 (and possibly 2 grandparents). We want something with 2 dedicated bedrooms for sure and we were leaning 2 bedroom villa CCV at Wilderness week after Thanksgiving but I'm hearing that it will be nearly impossible to rent points or get booked out of pocket in a 2 bedroom at CCV for that week. Alternates would be sometime in the last two weeks of April or the middle of March - and then I'm afraid we'll run into spring break madness. I'm really starting to have a "why is this so hard" moment! lol

When would veterans recommend going out of those 3 options? Any advise is appreciated!

If you’re looking at Wilderness Lodge after Thanksgiving, you can also look at Boulder Ridge Villas. After Thanksgiving is a great time to go if you want to be there for holiday celebrations. It’s a little cooler, and I love that cooler weather. Late April is one of my favorite times to go because it’s warmer, albeit more humid, and Flower and Garden is one of my favorite festivals. I have not been in March because of Sprint Break crowds.
Good luck!

Thank you for your insight Deb!

The issue with renting points is you need to find an owner at that resort to book at 11 months at 7am for you to stay the first few weeks in December. Even then, availability can be difficult to book. In 2022, the week after Thanksgiving encroaches in this time frame. In 2022, Boulder Ridge is also scheduled for a hard refurb so I would personally avoid that as a substitute resort unless that won't bother you. I would shoot for March/April.

If you are not set on Wilderness Lodge, you could look at at 2br at Bay Lake Tower. They have 3 full bathrooms! :)

The two weeks after Thanksgiving are my favorite time to go to WDW. The weather is usually decent and I love WDW all decorated for Christmas! This would be my first choice for you.
The last two weeks in April would be my second choice for you, with mid-March being my last choice for you due to crowds.

Using a service like David's Vacation Club Rental will make that whole process easier. We are owners, and rent our points through them - so I see how quickly reservations are provided. They also offer financial protections, on the chance that things go pear shaped. (for owners as well as renters).

I know that covid threw them for a loop, and we had renters who had their vacation cancelled on them. David's did everything they could to refund them, without expecting us to return the deposit money we had already used. Instead, we re-rented our points to another family when restrictions lifted, and David's made the original family whole.

We personally tried to rent for this time period through David's for a friends wedding week a few years ago by staying at VGF. We contacted them prior to 11 months to have everything ready to go and basically were told it wasn't going to happen. They didn't clarify if that was because they didn't have any VGF owners or what, but they kept trying to refund us every day leading up to the 11 month mark. Since we are owners I checked availability daily until it was gone and only then asked them to refund. I haven't used them personally to rent our points as I use the boards here so I can't speak to it from that side. Of course you can always get lucky but my understanding is they aren't reaching out to the resort owner asking them to book the reservation at 7am which is what is needed for some resorts at peak times.
