Hi all! I need your advice...

Im taking my mom on a "mommy & me trip" in May for our bdays (58 and 35)and mother's day. She hasn't been to WDW since we went as a family in 1986 when I was in middle school. My dad passed suddenly 3 years ago and she hasn't fully recovered. Im trying to make this trip is fun and silly as possible. I decided on a whim last week to include a Character Breakfast in our plans. I don't think either of us as ever done one and I figured it was good for some silly pictures and silly fun. I have it scheduled for our MGM day since we don't have to rush out for rope drop that day. I currently have a 9 am ADR at Cape May Cafe for the character breakfast. I liked the idea of the old favorites being the characters. And I figured we could take the boat over to MGM after and neither of us has ever seen this hotel so I figured that was a plus also. I am not, however, impressed with the food options for $18.99.

Today I started poking around at menus again and was intrigued by the offerings at the 1900 Park Fare character breakfast. And Mary Poppins is a favorite. And neither of us has ever been to the Grand Floridian. When we went as a family, they had just broke ground on it. How easy is it to get to MGM from the GF though?

What do you think? Should I stick with my CMC ADR? Is it a good buffet? Or should I attempt a change to 1900 PF instead? We're just 2 "old ladies" with no kids on this trip. THANKS!

We did both 2 weeks ago. Both are very good. The food is very nice. I think the Grand F. is a better hotel for looking at than the one Cape May is in. I would probably go to Cape May before 1900, but that is more to do with my weird family preferring Chip and Dale than anything else :rotfl2:

I personally think it's worth it to wake up early and go to Grand Floridian for 1900 Parkfare especially if you are a Mary Poppins fan and have never seen the Grand Floridian. This is probably my favorite character breakfast and my favorite atmosphere. The Grand Floridian is just gorgeous and the food at 1900 Parkfare is always quality. I personally haven't had a bad experience there.

If you have an MK day scheduled, you could do this breakfast on that day about an hour prior to MK rope drop to make it easier on you and just keep the Cape May breakfast which is good and has great character interaction.

Very easy to take a GF bus to MGM. I prefer Cape May for the BW area if you've never seen it it's great. But I guess if you've never seen the GF and you like the menu it's probably a better option for you.

Got back 2 weeks ago and I must say they had the best breakfast ever!!! Everything was high quality, great variety, good tasting. It was nice to see different characters too! We saw Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, Pooh, Tigger, and Mary Poppins. Will be sure to book again for our next trip:dance3:

This is a tough one. We love both of them; however, I would have to give a very, very slight edge to 1900 Park Fare. I think what it would really come down to is what characters would you like to see.

I have done both and Cape May is the best! Quiet if you go in the early morning, great food and tons of character time. We did 1900 PF and the food was terrible, the characters just waved at DH and I because they couldnt squeeze past the other tables to get to us, the noise level is insane, you cannot hear the other person that you are seated with...we will not go back there.

1900 has more unique characters, so I'd give it a try. You can catch the classic characters for lunch or dinner in a variety of places throughout WDW.

Even if you can't get an ADR for lunch or dinner try walking up. We almost always get in even without ADR's. Don't count on it though, 50/50 shot. ;)

To get to MGM from GF just hop on the bus! :thumbsup2

My family has done both and we definitely found the food at GF better. The quality of the food, service and characters was great. You can't get strawberry soup in any other place and while it may sound weird and look weirder, it is wonderful.

We found Cape May to be crowded and loud and I have three boys!!

As for getting to DHS (Disney Hollywood Studios, new name) just hop on the bus, but not before strolling the grounds.

Stick with CMC! 1900 PF has more face characters and it has been my experience that they stop by quickly at your table and give you a polite greeting but really don't give that much attention to adults dining without children.

CMC, on the other hand, has Minnie, Chip, Dale, and when I went I think Goofy and Pluto were also there. We went here as a group of 5 adults a few years ago and the characters paid so much attention to us. I have pictures of them feeding people in my party, acting really silly with all of us, and we all laughed like crazy and were like little kids again! I think that's what you're looking for. The buffet offerings may not be the most exciting - just standard breakfast fare, but it was a beautiful buffet with plenty to eat and wonderful surroundings. Please don't change it.

These are both great character breakfasts. The food is more upscale at the Grand Floridian and if you've never been there, I'd give it the edge. You really can't go wrong with either.

We loved 1900 Park Fare in December!! We were the first ones seated and it was really quiet (for a while) the food was amazing--I can't wait to go back for the strawberry soup. The characters spent time at our table and ooohed and aaawed over my DD(12) autograph book she made herself :) We had a great time. Hope you have a fun mommy and me trip.:)
