Hi! :wave: I have been on the dis for a while... mostly on the community board.

Well I have been wanting to lose weight and get healthy for a while...but not really motivated to start. (but some of my recent photos have really motivated me...)
I know I have to lose about 80 pounds and that is OVERWHELMING!!!!!

I have seen lots of Dis'ers with the banners in their sigs about LBS lost and the WISH board..... so I have finally jumped over here....

Can anyone tell me how this forum works.....specific threads that I need to subscribe to....participate in....?

I really don't know all the ins and outs of the board, but just wanted to welcome you and wish you good luck in your weight loss journey!

You said you have 80 pounds to lose and that it is overwhelming. Try not to think of the "big goal" too much and focus on "smaller" goals. Ideally I should lose about 70 pounds myself, but I'm focusing on just 30-40 for NOW, then when I reach that goal I'll start thinking about the rest. :)

I know I need to start with a smaller goal....Is 5 or 10 pounds too small?:rotfl:

I am just starting...going to get offline and get a book to start recording weight etc.

I would like to do this with out going to WW etc. But we will see....I may have to join....

My big goal is 80 pounds as well. I started out in august with a 40 pound goal and am now one pound away from that!! :woohoo: Once i hit that i am going to tackle the other 40 pounds. It seems more doable to me when i split it up that way, for some reason.

That is fantastic! You were brave to make 40 your first goal!!

Were you using a specific plan? That was fast too! that gives me hope!!!

Thanks!! I used the six week body makeover , i can't remember if you are supposed to lose 20 or 30 pounds in six weeks but, in the first six weeks i lost 25 pounds, then if your not at your goal you keep going. I then lost six more pounds in weeks 7-9. I had a plateau after that of the weightloss for about three weeks. But, i kept losing inches so i didn't give up like i normally would have.

I would highly suggest measuring yourself. That has helped me to keep going. When i didn't see a pounds loss i always saw inches lost,it helps so much!!!

I have been WISHing on and off for almost 4 years and I can't tell you how much this board has helped me through my journey. No matter what type of weight loss program you follow you can find helpful tips and always get your questions answered by the many folks here that have been there or are there. There are so many people here in various stages of weight loss that someone usually can be helpful. I agree with whoever said to take it in small increments, I have found more success that way. Also another important thing is to keep a journal. My suggestion is to get a nice bound journal, write down your starting date, starting weight and your body measurements. (Why body measurements, some times when the scale doesn't show a loss your measurements do). Then you have a central location to jot down what food/calories you eat each day. I have a small one that I take with me everywhere. When at home it stays on the kitchen counter, in the morning I put it in my briefcase and then it sits on my desk all day until I am ready to go home. Helps to keep you on track.

I have never measured myself......that is a good idea....

I used to have a tape measure....where is it...?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

i started a journal this morning....now I will add measurements!

I will be around.....:thumbsup2 and hopefully less round!!!

:welcome: to WISH! This is the greatest bunch of people and the support here is awesome.

Basically you just jump right into the threads and introduce yourself. There are all different kinds, so just find ones that interest you.
