Hello, new here & hooked!

Hello,
We took our first camping trip on Monday, we went for one night and we fell in love! So much so that on Tuesday we called and booked a site for October 8th for two nights! We used a tent...so much fun!
We have three children, ages five three and five months. We only went for one night cause it was our first camping trip with the kids and wanted to see how they were and they were fantastic. Our neighbors might not have enjoyed our baby having some teething issue's , crying for 30 minutes but we settled her down and all was well.
We live 30 minutes from Disney. I wish that we could book more nights for the near future but it seems very well booked up!
Does anyone else go camping with young children? What do you all usually do, we aren't going to the parks or anything (thats a lot of $$ for us right now). I like just hanging out though i wish we could have our own campfire but from what i understand there's a band on it right now. Anyone else with small children going to be camping on the 8th and 9th, just hanging about?

That's all it takes is one stay and you are hooked for life. We enjoy bringing along a first timer, just to hear them say that there is no other campground like it. We always take time on each trip to just kick back and enjoy the fort. Especially when our kids were young. Ours have camped since they were babies and we also did it in a tent for many years. It can be a lot of work, but they are memories you will always treasure.

It also only took one visit for us and we were hooked. We go there a few times a year and we would love to go more. We took friends with us on our last trip and now they are hooked also.

Have you looked into the Florida resident discounts? There's an annual pass with certain dates blocked out that's a great rate.

My girls are grown now (20 and 17). They've grown up camping in tents, TT, and now their grandparents RV. (or as my young niece said the VCR) You can have sooo much fun.. Remember side walk chalk, jump ropes, the fishing, playing ground, playing with balls of all sizes, riding tricycles, then bikes. There is a whole lot of stuff you can do with young kids and really have a lot of memories. Just always pack alot of clothes. Mine always found the dirt but that was fun too although at the time I really didn't appreciate that. I'm not sure what else you want to know about camping with young 'uns but it sure is an experience.

Howdy! Welcome and a warning, there's no 12 step program available, you just have to keep going back to Fort Wilderness!

FW and Disney are great for just hanging out with the kids! There are so many places to walk to and explore, the path to WL is a great walk with lots of places for exploring in the lodge when you get there. My kids could spend an afternoon at Legoland in DtD designing lego cars and other things. At night you can go over to the Polynesian and watch wishes from the beach, find a speaker and park yourselves beside it so you can hear Jiminy while you watch. As much as I love wishes from inside the MK, I love it this way too, because it reminds me of Tinkerbell starting the Wonderful World of Disney when I was a kid.

It really doesn't take long does it? Glad to hear you enjoyed the tent camping (and with the young ones to boot). Good job.

We do quite a bit of tent camping with Cub Scouts. So much actually, that when we travel to FW, we always seem to end up in a travel trailer or cabin .

Fort Wilderness is the best campground we have been to ever, anywhere. I can't even think of one that compares. It is a sickness for which there is n cure.

Enjoy your time at FW. We won't be heading back to WDW until Mar 08 and that will be mostly at SSR (I will sneak at least 2 days at FW though). To do any less would be uncivilized.......

We have been tent camped with our children now 10,10 ,9, 7 and 4 since they were very young and camping is a wonderful way to spend family time without the distractions of every day life! We love Fort Wilderness, but also love camping at various state and national parks. My boys are cub scouts and enjoy interpretive programs at these types of parks. Enjoy camping with your kids as they grow up so fast and the memories of your camping trips will be awesome. Lori

Welcome! I'm so envious that you live so close to FW...how lucky you are!
I believe that at certain times of year you are permited to have a fire in an enclosed fire pit..one screened and with a top. You might want to look into that...with the cooler weather coming, you're likely to be able to use it.

Yep, as long as there isn't a fire ban in place, you can have a fire in a fire pit that is enclosed on all sides. Welcome, and have fun!
