Hello! Looking for Engagement Help!!!

Hey all, just joined the disboards and I am here for some ideas/help. I will be heading to WDW with my girlfriend in the beginning of 2017 for a week. I will be proposing to her and I have a general idea of what I want to do but am still not quite sure. Here are two ideas i have:

My first idea has been to pop the question during the dessert party in the garden terrace. This would be about halfway through our trip. My hope would be to get a spot at the front of the terrace for a good view and photo spot. My concerns are lighting during the fireworks and the risk of relying on a stranger to take photos/actually take a quality photo. I know i would not be able to get a photo pass cast member to help with this since they have their designated locations.

My other idea is to propose in front of the partners statue/castle. I would be able to do it during lighter hours of the day if I did it the same day as the dessert party. This would allow for a photo pass cast member to snap photos more professionally than a guest. My concern with this is the amount of people that will be around at this time, potentially getting in our photo. I also am curious if there would be enough light to do this on our first day when we get to MK probably around 5:30pm. If it gets too dark, then it would be the same day as the dessert party, but obviously earlier in the day.

If anyone has any tips/suggestions for my ideas, or even any ideas of your own that could help me, I would truly appreciate it.

If you are worried about people in the photos the dessert party and partners statues just aren't going to be good options. Now you could wait until the very end of the 1st night (sounds like you are going to MK anyways) and try to hang back as long as possible. The photopass photographers will be out for awhile and main street is well lit and they have their cameras set for taking photos at night. That would let you do it on the 1st night but also have less people around to potentially jump into the photo.

That's a good point about staying real late. Only question i have for myself is how late are we going to be willing to stay on the first night considering it's our travel day. Any thoughts on what the daylight will be like around 5:30ish if I were to do this at the partners statue?

I am a local and it starts getting dark around then right now. So Dusk..

We are PH's and get pictures all the time with the photo-pass photographers and they come out really nice, and make sure to have them scan your magic band as soon as you are done. Tell them what's about to happen and they will happily get the shots. When my DD best friend got engaged, he told the guy behind him what he was doing and the couple video it for them while the photo pass photographer got all the pictures.

There are a lots of beautiful spots to pop the question, Cinderella wishing well, and if you look around sometimes on the walkways going to a land there will be a photographer with an angle of the castle in the back ground so less people. One of our favorite spots is the walk way into tomorrow land their always seem to be a photographer there, its out of the way and with the castle in the back ground it might work out for you.

Also there are a lot of spots over in Epcot, gardens in Canada, the fountain in France to name a few, if you decided to wait and not do it the 1st day, depending on how travel goes you might want to have a back up plan.

I didn't read much of anyone else's response's. forgive me if you have gotten advice before.

My best friend proposed here at the Disneyland Resort. I am sure WDW works a little bit different but either location you choose find a cast member give them the heads up on what you will be doing anile able to help out with crowd control if needed. they can also provide a photo pass photographer at your leisure for the Disney photos.

Part of me wants to do it then, but another part of me really wants to do it the first day of the try rather than wait for half of the trip to go by and be anxious the entire time. I feel like it would be a more enjoyable trip if I do it on the first night. Any other ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Had the glass slipper engagment package booked this past october and could not recommend it more highly, our waiter was fantastic we got a window seat, the photopass photographer took over 75 shots and afterwards the princesses all came over and congratulated us. It was so magical and my now fiance absolutely loved it.

I've witnessed a lot of proposals at WDW. I'd say a vast majority I've see happen in front of the photopass photographer that is on the small bridge between the end of main street and the hub. Not the one directly at the statue but before that. I'd say most of them happened where they waited for a photo as they walk to the spot, he starts to knell everyone nearby quickly notices and gives them room. google disneyworld proposal and click on the images search, you'll get an idea of what photos look like just doing it with photopass with the crowd around..

I agree with the others that people will move out of the way once they realize what is happening outside, and that the castle package would be AMAZING... BUT if the wishes party is what feels right to you, trust your gut. Perhaps if you talk to the CMs as soon as you arrive, they can help you get a little space and take the photos? (I don't know, just an idea to explore.) One thing I would suggest, though, if you're going to do it during wishes, is to run through the video a couple of times on YouTube and pick your moment as well as a couple of back-up moments. You don't want to pop the question, have her say yes, and then the soundtrack villains say something dire like "You'll regret this!!" ;P

It sounds like you really want the proposal in the MK< and you want the romance of Wishes included, so I would trust your instincts and go for it.

I will say that I have witnessed proposals in front of the wishing well, and they are pretty darn sweet. I also think that logistically, a proposal that is situated where Accident suggested would be very nice as well. People will move for you.

If it was at all possible to stay awake and moving until park close, I would want that gorgeous Castle, all lit up as my backdrop. Whatever you decide, Congratulations! May all your Dreams come true.

I proposed to my now wife at magic kingdom in the rose garden at magic kingdom (which no longer exists). It worked out great just using the photo pass person. When we were walking up I just leaned over and told the photo pass person I was proposing so please keep snapping pictures. I must say in front of the castle at night makes for some unbelievable photos! Only other recommendation is to do it early so you can spend your while vacation celebrating!

We saw a proposal happen at the California Grill right before Wishes. The wait staff filmed and took pictures and there was a photographer ready out on the patio to take pictures with Wishes in the background. Then when the couple came came inside, the staff had decorated their table.

As someone who loves WDW, but is very private, just consider (and I'm sure you have!) if she'd like this kind of open proposal. For me, this would be horrifying. Other people? Photographers? No.

I hope it goes great, just offering a small, dumb point of consideration.

Others can chime in their experience, but there were no Photopass photographers at our Dessert Party.

Castle backdrop is my only suggestion really.

Definitely do it that first night! You don't want to feel nervous and anxious for half your trip, and just think how much celebrating you can do after it's done! It will make for a truly magical week.

I'm guessing this guy knows his girlfriend well enough to know whether or not she will like this type of proposal...

OP, I'd go with proposing the first night. It sounds like it will make you anxious to wait (totally understandable!). Other posters have mentioned photo packages you can look into, and I think those sound like a great way to capture your special moment!
