Hi, I'm Liz and I'm planning my very first family vacation!

My parents (62 and 50) want to take my husband (31) and I (30), and our two kids (3 years and 6 months) to Disney World in September.

They're big rvers and love to drive, so we're all going to drive down from the Chicagoland area. I'm planning on renting an RV and hopefully getting a good spot close to them at Ft Wilderness. Because my husband's vacation time is limited, I think we're only going to be able to do 5 days/4 nights.

I'm so excited I could puke! So glad to join the boards and start hardcore planning.

Welcome to the board Liz. Lots of great people here on the Camping Board, probably the friendliest board here IMO.

We are heading down and staying in the cabins in Oct with a big family trip. Started out with 3 of us, myself, DW and 7yo DD. We are now up to 14 of us in 3 cabins.

You will love The Fort.

Welcome aboard. We're a fun loving bunch happy to help in any way we can.

If there's a question let us know.

Welcome to the boards! We are heading down for our second Ft Wilderness vacation in August! You are going to LOVE Ft Wilderness!!! Have fun planning!

Welcome Liz! September is a great time to visit WDW and the Fort.

:welcome:

You found a great place. I'm also from IL (although down by StL- Go Cards!) and we are also going in September. It is a great time to go. Crowds are much lighter since school is in and the weather is still "Summer", i.e HOT. I hate cold weather, so that's good. We are taking my sister and her 5 y/o daughter.

Renting an RV will be a fun adventure, but with RVing parents, that should make it a breeze. Once you and your parents have your reservations, as long as they are both the same type site, you can ask to have the reservations linked and the Fort will try to keep you close together.

The group is is fantastic. Ask any questions that you have. If we don't know the answer, most everyone is really good at making something up that sounds plausible. :D

Actually, there is a huge wealth of knowledge here and we all love to share.

Hi Liz

welcome to the board, you're going to love the fort, we also come down from the Chicago area.

Welcome to the boards! I'm still a newbie to camping at Ft. Wilderness....working on being a veteran with 3 more trips planned between now and the week after Thanksgiving! I've been to Disney several times though and now that we live 74 miles way I'm in Disney heaven! There will definitely be lots of people here to help you plan.

We are planning on 3 sites for a multi family gathering in October. We will have a lot of first timers. SO much fun to gather at the Fort! I hope that you all enjoy it as much

Welcome to the board! As everyone has said, this is the best place to ask any questions concerning camping & someone will give you an answer. When you get to the Fort in Sept., please keep us informed on all the good things you & your family are doing. I wish I could go & stay forever.

:welcome: Welcome to the camping board, as Teamubr stated, any question asked, if we don't know the answer, we will make up something that sounds good. :goodvibes

:welcome:

I am sure your trip to the fort will be an awesome one. We also love to follow along with the Trip reports so feel free to post away with your adventures on your trip and even the planning of it.

There is probably very little that you will encounter that many of the folks here haven't already encountered as well. So enjoy and once again welcome to the forum. :)

Hi Liz,
It doesn't matter if you are north or south side. Or even hawks.... We are here to help!!!!

With limited time, you want to make the most of it. You have a few options to get down there, Atalanta or to the west Memphis/Birmingham . on our later trips we started to go through Memphis, way easier/less stress. teh major wild card is Alt./GA

You have a lot of driving for number of nights, if there is any way to have hubby can get a few extra days off, it will be worth it. even if they are not park days.

There is a great campground - KOA foryth just south of Atlanta.

map out rest stops, it great to get kids out and stretch the legs. through in a kick ball the 3 YO will enjoy.

:welcome:

Have fun planning! And remember to plan for some down time just hanging around the Fort, it is a really special place!
