Hello all. Found this board while seaching for advice for our WDW vacation in 2016, so I decided to sign up. Wife and I will be taking our 3 kids (11, 7, 5) for their first time next year. I haven't been since I was 11 (1988). My wife is an ex-cast member and she hasn't been back since 2000.

Welcome..I am a surburban Houstonian! We are getting ready for our 3rd family trip in August 2015.

 Buda TX Here (15 miles South of Austin)

We are taking our 3 kids for the first time next month!

Are y'all flying or driving? We are driving.

Welcome to the boards. Enjoy planning your vacation, that's a big part of the fun!!

Welcome Butter!
Another Texan here...(Eastside of H-Town).
Lots of helpful folk here....you're gonna be surprised with how many changes have occurred at WDW since y'all's last visits! The last few years have especially been crazy, and more changes are happening still!
It's great that you're getting an early start with your planning, plus-for many of us-that's half the fun!

Howdy! We are in the burbs of Houston. We are gearing up for our third trip in 13 months! We will be headed to the House of Mouse for Spring Break. We are road trippers.

Welcome! We are in Texas as well.

I'm curious about the previous poster's experience with driving to WDW. We've always flown but this summer as soon as school gets out I'm thinking about a road trip to Orlando with DS9.

I am not the previous poster; but we drove for our December trip (From San Antonio, TX).
My husband and I drove over 4 days-- stop at Lafayette, LA and Pensacola, FL (2 nights). My son drove back with us and we made one stop at New Orleans (to visit WWWII museum). We estimated the cost for 5 flight tickets would be more than the cost for gas and accommodation. We just finished adding up the cost for the trip and found that to be true. We had a good times in all those cities we stop. Wish we have more time to stop at the WWWII museum (we are going back there in Feb)

We drove in February of last year for the first time. We stopped in New Orleans over night and in Panama City, Florida over night. Coming back we stopped in Mobile (almost exactly the mid point) Our kids were 2 and 4 (they turned 3 and 5 at WDW) and we spent two weeks at Disney.

When we returned in July we drove straight through. We left around midnight and arrive around 4 pm. The trip was a total surprise for the kids. We drove the entire way there without telling them. When we arrived we acted like we were lost and needed help figuring out where we were. They saw the entrance sign and were completely beside themselves! It was the best surprise ever! Coming back home we stopped at Mobile again. I put together fun travel notebooks with dry erase car games, scratch off tickets for fun prizes and treats, and coloring pages for each state we went through.

In March we plan to leave around 3 am, putting us there around 7 pm. We have 8 am breakfast reservations at MK, so it will be unlikely that we will go to a park on the day of arrival.

For us, driving just makes sense. We have a Prius. Last year it cost us $86 each way to drive plus one meal. We packed tons of snacks and water. This year it will be even less with the low cost of gas! We could fly...but that would be $2000 taken away from park splurges!

OP here and yes, we plan on driving. We have 3 young kids, so flying costs would be pretty high. We have a great minivan with DVD player and room for everyone to spread out. The kids are used to long trips as we alternate summers driving between Ohio to see the grandparents or Destin, Florida for my wife's parents' condo for a week.

From Beaumont here....we fly, DH, Good Friend, and me. We drove it once and it took too long so we do it the fast way.
