Hello from a newbie

Uh oh....

How to win friends and influence people ?

Graham Taylor is most definitely not Arsenal's boss ! Arsenal's boss is Arsene Wenger.

FYI Graham Taylor is boss of Aston Villa.

Hi Diane

We went to Dallas in 1993 - grassy knoll etc...........really enjoyed it and the Dallas Cowboys stadium was something else.

Chelsea fans here - me since a young lad, DW since we started dating and DD's and DS since birth!

Royal Family - we could well do without them, I do not see why hard working taxpayers should contribute towards an extravagant lifestyle for so many "hangers-on", tourists don't come to see the Queen they come to see the palaces and castles and even more sights not connected with royalty. Don't forget their immense wealth has all come from the taxpayer, they have not earned a single penny by themselves. I do feel sorry for Charles though, he ended up with a fruit cake of a wife not of his choosing and should now be allowed to marry the love of his life - the rapidly dwindling Diana supporters are losing their influence and IMO he will re-marry in the next couple of years.

Welcome to the boards - carry on the emotive topics like this and you will soon become a legend!

Whoa Terry, I stand corrected
GT is AV's boss! I always seem to get AV and Arsenal confused because I know Harry likes on and William likes the other.

floridalol

You support Chelsea too!?! Well, at least you don't support Man U. :jester:

I hope Charles will marry Camilla as well, he should have in the first place. It's too bad that he has Prince Philip for a father :(

I always have known football clubs were an emotive topic, but the monarchy suprised me

WOW, you guys brought back some memories with this thread. Basically we have the same situation in Spain, soccer is the BIGGEST sport ever ( of course I support Barcelona ) but not only that, also the Monarchy. My personal opinion is we could do without them and their extravagant lifestyle, to me it's a waste of money.

Hopefully, the soccer situation in Spain is not like the soccer situation in South America :(

I wouldn't mind be under the Borbons-they seem really classy and down-to-earth. I really don't have an opinion either way, but I have to ask British republicans why throw the baby out with the bathwater? Why not have the Stuarts run the show?

Diane

We've been to Dallas a few times now and think it is a really cool place. I am a Dallas Cowboys fan too which helps! Emmitt Smith is my hero and has been for years. We went to Texas Stadium to see them back in 1996 which was amazing.
Superbowl XXX was one of the greatest moments - we actually came over to see it. Unfortunately I was let down at the last minute with my ticket :( :( but my husband got in so I had to watch the game in a bar outside the stadium. The Cowboys beat the Steelers :D:D DH is a Steelers fan so that made me feel better :D  I have never let him forget it either

DH gave me one of the best presents for Christmas - he managed to get me a No. 22 Emmitt Smith shirt which was no mean feat as Emmitt had just broken the record for number of rushing yards when DH decided what to buy me for Christmas! There were no shirts available at all in Europe so our friends pulled in a favour and managed to get their hands on just about the last shirt on the shelves before Christmas in the US!!

Are you a Cowboys fan?

We're hoping to get to see either the Cowboys or the Texans play when we are over later this year. We're going to try to get to see the Longhorns too - managed to get a personal tour of the UT campus and Longhorns stadium two years ago. I have got a Chris Simms shirt too! Go Horns Go!!

Fiona

Hi Fiona :D

Yes, I am a Cowboys fan, but I've never been to a game believe it or not. I also like the Stars, the Burn, and the Mavericks too.

About Simms and Coach Mack Brown, I really can't say anything good about them, especially the latter. Let's just say I'd rather have a Becks jersey! Did you get to up to the top of the Tower while at UT?

diane

:)

Diane

No, we didn't manage to go up the UT tower - maybe next time :D

We should hopefully get to see quite a few sporting events when we come over. I hoping for a Dallas game, DH is hoping for a Texans game. Whoever or whatever, we don't mind 'cos we just love the atmosphere at sporting events.

Thanks for the welcome.

That being said though I must ask, are you implying that I am a "Yank"? I am NOT a Yankee! I am a very proud SOUTHERNER.

While I wouldn't call you a yankee (especially since you are a Texan), being an American, you are still a yank, particularly to folks from the United Kingdom. Get it?

Hi there

I support a team called Leeds. They are based in the city of Leeds in Yorkshire. That's a County. What you would call a state. My team are having a bit of bother at the moment. They are selling their best players, go into financial trouble.

About you coming here. Strange! When I retire in about 9 years I'm looking to buy a home in Florida. To get some winter warmth. It's cold and windy at the moment, don't think you would like that.

Regarding the Royals. Country seems split over that. I believe the onlder generation are still in favour, but the younger ones feel there are an out-dated instituation. This really comes to the forfront during recession times, as they live in such splender. I think in this country we do not have the same pride in our county as you Americans

Hello,

You must really like very humid weather to want to live in Florida. No, I don't like cold weather that much, but Britain or Ireland is probably worth it :) More football definately is!

I think that it's a shame that some Britons aren't proud of thier heritage. It's even more of a shame that more Americans aren't ashamed of our country, especially with our lack of concern for other nations.

It is well-documented that Princess Margaret was nitpicky about others showing (or lack thereof) her respect due to her being a member of your Royal Family. Some people say that she was just arrogant, but on a little reflection I believe that she was intensely proud of her family and heritage.

arrogant or proud. Now that's a difficult one. I suppose only the person making the comment can really answer that question.

I do feel at times that the Royals are not in the real world. I am proun to be British, even so I firmly believe that our nation can be very arroganr. I think it goes back to when we ruled half the world.

I personally regard residents of the USA far more polite than us British. My only critism being the waste petrol ect. Global warming will effect all nations. There again I'm sure people over the pond are just as worried. Also I personally love the prive of your petrol when I visit. Could that make me a hypocritic? Possibly'
