Hello all!

Hello you

Long time no see!!!! How's things?? When is your next trip?

Hiya Bill

Nice to 'see' you again :) As Joey says (on Friends) How you doin' ? :teeth:

Hey Bill, you liking this weather? Imagine it's getting a bit drafty in that kilt. :teeth:

Hi Bill!

Nice to see you around.

:wave2:

All is well here, friends. It is cold, but I suppose there isn't much that I can do about that.

I've been really busy these days preparing a new group of SWAT team members for their training course, so I haven't been around much.

I hope all is well with you all.

(and Olaf... even cold weather is good weather for a kilt... I just wear the heavier ones)

:wave2: Hello Bill - great to see you again:tongue: So, when will you have time for the next installment in my US police forces lessons?;)

Have a great weekend

Hey, Bill - thanks:D

This question goes a little broader than just police, but I've always been intrigued by the differences between CIA and FBI?

A brief answer will be great when you have the time.

Take care

. . . ooh, and one I keep meaning to ask.

Being an avid watcher of CSI, do all your police forces have these people so readily available? And is the show realistic?

Thanks:wave2:

The differences between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) are quite broad in most regards...

The FBI is basically a police orgnization. Their job is to fight major criminal activity. Things like bank robbery, money laundering, major fraud, kidanpping, copyright infringement, etc... these and other things that the FBI covers.

The FBI also has something of an intelligence function. This is where things get a wee bit murky. The FBI is responsible for counter-intelligence here in the US. This means spy-catching. They are also responsible for counterterrorist operations. Here is where they get entangled with CIA at times.

The CIA is the senior intelligence agency in our government... but not the only one. The CIA is responsible for the collection of foreign intelligence abroad, and is genereally forbidden from intelligence activities within our own borders.

The FBI and CIA clash from time to time when their operations overlap. There is a lot more to it, obviously... but there is the bare bones of it.

There... that should be as clear as mid, eh?

Bill

Regarding CSI...

Where do I begin? I have only seen a few minutes of the show... just the once. As a rule the only police show that I watch with any regularity is a show called Red Cap, on BBC America.

CSI is a little too glossy for me, crime scene investigators never look that good in real life. As for how readily they are available... that would depend on the size of the particular police department.

Most large departments will have people that are full time crime scene investigators... others will have officers that do that function on an as-needed basis. Still smaller departments will borrw investigators from other departments when they have a need.

Cheers,

Bill

:D Bill - thanks so much for all the really interesting info again. I feel like I can hold my head up at a quiz on US law enforcement:D

Cheers, m'dears:D
