I have been lurking for many moons, and finally decided to join the board. I am sooooo excited because we booked our trip for Aug 30 - Sept 5. We (my roommate & I) are keeping it a secret from my son who has been begging to go to WDW forever! So we are checking the boards, gathering tips and such, and practically bursting with the secret. :ssst:

Anyway, I am looking forward to being a part of the Disboards. :wave2:

aboard!!!

Welcome! We surprised our 11 year old son with a trip to WDW last August. I only had to keep the secret about a month and it was soooo hard!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I already know I'm gonna love it here!

mickeystoontown - It's getting harder every day. His best friend went to Florida last month, and all I heard was, "We're never gonna go to Disney." :sad1: The situation didn't get any better when his cousin got to go with her grandparents about 2 weeks later.

I just can't wait to see his face!! Gotta make sure I have the camera ready :p

We drove to WDW (a 14 1/2 hour drive) but we told our son we were going on a long weekend road trip and had no idea where the road would take us.

We go to WDW every May or June but had to cancel when I started a new job. So, we all thought we weren't going to WDW in 2008 (would be the first time in 11 years). We just knew that he would catch on on day 2 of the drive. When we stopped at a Florida rest area, he saw Kissimmee on the map and begged us to go to Disney. We told him we couldn't...it was too far and it was too much money. We got back in the car and he played his PSP and watched movies on the portable DVD player.

When we got about 30 miles to WDW, we knew we would be seeing mileage signs soon so we got out the camcorder and had our son start a "we're on a road trip and don't know where we are going video". We had him practice it a few times to make sure the camcorder was working.

As soon as we saw the Disney World 30 miles sign, we had him read it aloud to us (while we were still recording). He read it and then asked again if we could go. We told him that we really DID know where we were going and we handed him an envelope that had all of our Disney reservation information in it. He opened it and we totally nuts. By the way, we are now officially "the best parents in the whole wide world".

It was soooo hard for us to keep the secret from him while I was planning the trip, booking our ADRs and ordering tickets. I don't know that I could ever do that again.

Hope that you have fun planning this fabulous surprise!

We are suprising my DD9 and DS6 with our trip in May. We are taking them out of school the last two days and going to Dis. My MIL and FIL are coming this time to. We are so excited. The kids know we are going to Disney sometime this year but not when. We keep telling them "if we go this year". I guess I am going to tell them we are going to Florida to the beach, like we do some years. I can't wait to see their faces when I tell them we are going to Disney again. Where in LA are you from? I live in Pineville, Central Louisiana.

I live in West Monroe so we not that far away from each other. We aren't going to Disney until August. We normally go the last week of May through the first week of June. But, I started a new job last May and now we have to go in August.

Your son is going to LOVE it!!!!!

Where are you staying? And how are you going to tell him??

We are staying at Pop Century, our trip is August 30 thru Sept 5. I'm not exactly sure yet how I'm going to tell him - I was thinking of making him go to bed early (gotta get back in the habit - week before school starts!) Our plane leaves at 7:00am - I was also thinking of telling him we are going to visit his Aunt and Uncle in Virginia (we just flew for a week down there in Jan.) Maybe tell him on the plane? Maybe wait til we land in Florida??

Any suggestions would be sooo helpful! :)
