Height restrictions question

So, I have a question and I know you wonderful folks can help me. Are the height restrictions posted with shoes or without? My youngest is at about 39 1/2 inches in her bare feet (can u be in bare feet). Just curious how close she is as we leave in a month and a half. Not that she would do a tonne of thrill rides but she might try one or two if she made the cut! :woohoo:

They are with shoes. A child who is 39.5" barefoot will most likely be able to ride all of the 40" rides, except for Jumpin' Jellyfish.

As the PP said, it is with shoes. However, I have read reports of guests being asked to remove their children's shoes if they look like they have a large/thick sole.

I would formally protest if they asked my kid to take their shoes off. It's unsanitary. You can't even take your shoes off at a doctors office to get on the scale for sanitary reasons. I'd never take my shoes off in a Disney park or any theme park. Gross.

That's fine...I would just then be prepared for the CM to say that your child cannot ride the ride in that case. According to Cheshire Figment (a CM at WDW), if it comes to a height dispute between a CM and a guest, the supervisors will back the CM because it's a safety issue. That makes sense to me. The reports I read, mostly indicated it only happens when the kids are wearing shoes with soles that are noticeable thick (i.e., platform shoes). Normal shoes don't seem to be a problem, so for most guests, I doubt this comes up.

Thanks for the posts. I don't intend to beat the system, I just want to know how the system works! Sounds like she should get to ride if things go well!!!

The time I witnessed it, it was a 4-5yo in 2 inch heels. They barely made the height bar in the heels. They said the heels weren't acceptable and had them take them off.

The height sticks are exactly 40". (Except for Jumping Jellyfish, which is 41".) I know because I personally measured them. So, if in shoes she is taller than 40", she will be fine. If you (or your doctor) mis-measures, you will be off at the park. I only say this because of the number of times I have heard or read someone post "At the doctor's office they were 41", but they didn't make the height stick at DL." This was why *I* measured the sticks one trip a year ago.

It's all about Safety, CM's are there to protect the "little" one from getting injured and/or feeling uncomfortable while on a certain Ride with a Lap-bar or other restraint. It's all Fun and Games until someone gets Hurt. Put your feet down for Safety. Create Fun, Happy, Magical Memories for All.

We just had the same situation, 39.5 inches barefoot. My son got on everything, no problem, including jumping jellyfish. We practiced for months having him put his feet together, stand tall and look straight forward, not up or down. It makes all the difference! Make sure she's in good tennis shoes, not sandals or thin soled shoes like Toms.

Like KeKy 4 said practice. One of our sons was a "huncher" every time he had to be measured. So we told them to stand tall like a tree and it worked!

Have a magical time!

Our DD was exactly 40" last year barefoot, with shoes we had no problems at all. She liked the Jelly Fish, which is not thrilling at all! Your child may not be into thrill rides, but RSR is a great ride and not too thrilling. My husband got DD to like Splash and Space Mountains by teaching her to scream on them. He even took her on TOT, but it was the last ride, so I'm not sure how she really felt about it.

My granddaughter was 2.5yo when she hit the 40" mark, and that trip the only rides we added were Radiator Springs and Soarin'. We went back at 2 years 8 mos, and her daddy took her on Star Wars, and learned we have a thrill ride junkie. She loves Space Mountain. Next trip, BTMRR will be open and she will love it.

She won't be doing ToT unless daddy is along.
