Height Requirments?

How tall do you have to be to get on rides like Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and the Matterhorn? Just curious because my Wife and I are anxiously counting down the days when we can take our son on his first trip to Disneyland and we want him to be able to go on everything...

Hes only 22" right now lol and 6 months old. So we got a looong wait.

Well, yeah, he's got a ways. Space Mountain for example you must be 40". Matterhorn is 35". If you go to the Disneyland website and look under attractions, you can click on the rides to see the height requirements. We waited until our boys were tall enough to go on everything before we took them. They were about 7 on their first trip.

Ugh man I dont think we can wait that long, I think for his third birthday we will be Disneyland bound.

We'd already had two (short) trips by the time E was 3, and we were so happy and proud to pay for his AP on that trip! And now we go quite often for living in WA, and it's exciting to see how much he grows between trips. Also gets him to eat well, since he's constantly "eating to get big for" some such ride. Right now he's eating for Indy and Screamin'...he's around 44/45" and Indy is 46", while Screamin' is 48". After that it'll be waiting to be big enough to ride Autopia alone, to go on Maliboomer, etc. There's always a goal!

So if you want to go, go.

Right!!! We are taking our twins for their first birthday, and I cant WAIT!! It will have been two years since we have been, and everyone is jonesing for some Disney magic!!

DH and I went to DL when the twins were little and we left them with Grandma and Grandpa. We had no older kids, the twins were it. We just didn't feel like doing the whole double stroller/double diaper thing at DL. I know lots of people do, but we just wanted to be able to do all it as a family together.

Screamin' is 48". My Xtra large DS was 5 before he hit that height. Normal size DS was 7 before he was 48" -- it took another year before he got the courage to ride it though!

Remember -- little tiny, tiny kids think Pirates is a roller coaster! When DS reach 40", he was so excited to go on the "new" rides. "Wow, Mommy, I can't believe how many new rides there are since the last time we were here!"

My original plan was to wait until DS was big enough to ride all the rides but then I just couldn't wait! I blame the dis boards because I was just lurking here for fun and after reading about everyone else having fun at DLR, I just couldn't wait any longer! But we're local. If we were going to DLR as a "real" vacation then I think we would have waited.

I was 5 the first time I went to DL and I was tall enough to ride on Space and BTMRR (Indy wasn't around yet).

I plan on taking my little one who is not here yet to DLR at about 2.5-3 months old and at about 4-5 months to WDW. Many people think it's easier to take little one's to the parks because they have no fear and you can cuddle them through the rides. The Disney parks are great because so many of the rides are actually all ages, for the thrill rides there is always parent swap, though I think I only really miss 2-3 rides right now.

It is worth it to head to the parks before you have to buy a ticket for your son and before he hits that "scary age" were POTC and witches scare him. The pictures and memories for you alone are worth a trip. I know my Mom and other parent's I have talked to remember those trips fondly!

If we had lived closer we would have taken them sooner too. Before that was too big of a production for us. And DH told me his favorite trips were the trips we took to Disneyland by ourselves.

Count me in the "if you want to go then go!" group.

DS was 18 months old on his first trip to WDW - he's been to WDW 4 times now and before he turns 5 he'll have had his 5th Disney trip (this time to DL).

BTW - we live in Colorado so it's not like it's cheap/easy for us to get there...

We took our grandson (3) and granddaughter (1) and had the best time! We used the child swap for rides they weren't tall enough to go on...worked great! Our grandson was tall enough to go on the Matterhorn and LOVED it!! He wasn't tall enough for the others though. Don't wait until they are tall enough...our one year granddaughter loved DL, and we loved seeing how happy they were!

I figure by the time you have to pay for a child they're pretty much tall enough for all rides in DL except Indy. Would I not take DD cause she's still not tall enough for Indy ~ heck no! So before your little one is tall enough take him ~ he's free!

We went for our first family trip this past April with a just 4 yr old and just about to turn 6 yr old. For the 2 years prior to that we have had a growth chart on the inside of our closet door with 40" circled with "DISNEYLAND" boldly writen beside it.

My thought had always been, if I am going to pay for them I want to maximize our experiences. So, 40" seemed to be my cutoff of most of the rides (OK, really Thunder MOuntain has a 40" requirement and that is my favorite ride so it is a must that my whole family can and will ride with me)

Now that I have actually been with my kids (vs just DH and I) I would go anytime that my schedule and finances allow, even if not of a certain hieght. The kids and us had an absolute fabulous time and I would not trade that for anything. You will have a great time no matter what their height, it will just be a different trip ride wise.

However, if your trip will be a once in a lifetime thing I would say wait until they are of school age and more able to remember and be involved in the trip.
